Core support/Gas Tank Question

I am currently restoring a 1969 c10. I have purchased a core support for it, and I have decided I want to go with the grill from a 67-68. Is this going to be an issue with mounting or am I ok using the 69-70 core support with the 67-68 grill?

Also Rear Mount gas tank from LMC. I notice a lot of people have used the kits but it doesn't come with everything needed. I'm a little confused as to where to find a filler neck and how that gets located in the bed of the truck. I have seen them in the first panel of the wood floor, I have seen them in the middle, what do I need to make this happen?

Chuck.

Re: Core support/Gas Tank Question

You need the 67-68 core support, fenders and hood to use the grill as a bolt on.

Re: Core support/Gas Tank Question

What was said above is correct. 67/68 grill requires 67/68 core support, 69-72 grill uses 69-72 support. I have seen threads were guys have modified a 69-72 support to a 67/68 grill, so you might do a little poking around here in the board. I am in the same boat as you on the fuel filler. I also installed a Blazer tank in the back of my 72 stepside. I have the bedwood ready to go, so i will see how it goes!

Re: Core support/Gas Tank Question

I at one time wanted (and sorta still do) to turn my 1972 into a 67 -68 front end......I like its look much better. In 1998 I got the whole front end off of a junkyard 1967 EXCEPT the radiator core support. I just didn't know those were year specific. Now I don't want to change mine over since it would make it look like a 1968....I'd rather just HAVE a 1968.

But I feel ya, the grill and sweep of the 67-68 hoods just looks more sleek!

Re: Core support/Gas Tank Question

zukowner WELCOME!!! First suggestion on fuel tank is to check with BB vendor. They should have a complete tank, straps and all.The filler is a "you're on your own" type deal.Everyone does theirs the way they like.Check out some of the build threads for ideas.

Re: Core support/Gas Tank Question

Zukowner,

Somewhere on the site someone placed the filler cap behind a swing down or swing up tail light on a fleetside and someone else used a swing open rear side marker light on a stepside for the filler neck and cap. The cap is concealed by the light.

Surely someone can put you onto whoever made those swing out pieces.

I think that is much superior to having to rely on filling the tank via the bed floor.....that would be very awkward at best.

Re: Core support/Gas Tank Question

Yes, most rear mounted tank kits leave the fuel filler opening up to you. Some will put the gas cap integrated into bed floor, or make an access door to get to the gas cap right below bed floor. I would take a look at the Boyd tanks. They are nicely made and a lot of forum members are using them... Our customers have been happy with them.

Re: Core support/Gas Tank Question

FYI
72 front core support can be used with 67-68 front clip. Just need to modify headlight buckets. I will be doing my bucket mod tomorrow.
