Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
Thanks! I'll have to look into that, especially if I want to go drag racing or the smell of gas in the cab gets annoying.

Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
Last Friday, I tried to get it started - nothing. Some probing revealed the starer (a junkard part) was getting 12V. I didn't have much to lose, so I tried taking the starter apart and greasing it, and got it turning. Wouldn't start, but one of my co-workers suggested I try some starting fluid. It fired right up and stayed running for about a minute. There's still some things I need to fix - there's a coolant leak, one brake line broken when I tried to bend it out of the way of the exhaust, and a lot of tuning. But it looks like it's pretty close to being back on the road.
And having an in-tank fuel pump with an in-cab fuel tank is definitely pretty loud. Will have to start thinking about relocating that...

Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
I decided to use a Street & Performance kickdown cable bracket. The bracket was ridiculously overpriced - $50 including shipping gets you a flat 2" piece of sheet metal with two holes in it, one of which makes no sense whatsoever. Would have fabbed my own if I'd known what I was getting. The kickdown cable wasn't long enough to reach; I'm trying to adapt something that I think was meant for a 700R4.
Other stuff that I need to get some pictures of: 1. The exhaust was pretty easy to set up - Camaro manifolds exit straight down and more or less lined up with the stock pipes, so I just needed a set of 2 bolt flanges, 90 degree bends, and a couple feet of piping. Someday I'd like to come back and put a crossover pipe in there. 2. Ended up attaching the MS3-Pro ECU to the A/C evaporator box with riv-nuts. Sounds a bit crazy but it ought to work. It's pretty lightweight and designed to go under the hood, but there wasn't any other good spot on the firewall. 3. Radiator hoses from a 2005 Silverado are almost a direct fit. I did have to trim an inch off both ends of the lower one. 4. Bent a new brake line to snake around the exhaust better. After getting nowhere with a Mity-Vac, a co-worker suggested I just open the bleeders at the back one at a time and gravity bleed the system. Got all the air out with a lot less work. The truck starts and runs, and I've moved it a couple feet under its own power yesterday. Another project was blocking it in, but on Monday I'll run it around the parking lot and see if there's anything else I need to correct before it goes on the dyno.

![]() Took it for a short shakedown run. Found and fixed a leak in the transmission cooler lines. I think it's ready to put on the dyno now.

Drove it a couple miles and realized the speedometer isn't working, but everything else is OK. Now it's time for dyno tuning:

Matt, is that a dyno hooked to the hub?

Correct - that's a Dynapack hub dyno with the covers off, as the covers wouldn't clear the bed.

Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
Found I hadn't filled the coolant properly - d'oh! Oh well, looks like nothing's damaged and it's full now.
The transmission is slipping a bit if you load it up for a couple minutes, and that's prevented me from getting a full tune. Some other issues I need to sort out: The cab smells like gas and it appears the fuel level sending unit isn't sealed properly. Need to get that right and replace any remaining rubber parts in there with new ones. Long term solution will be that under-bed gas tank. Need to hook up the temperature gauge and fix whatever I did wrong with the speedometer. The wideband O2 sensor isn't working - I think I may have damaged its wiring when I dropped the exhaust to get a new brake line in there, as the factory ones were so close I was afraid of boiling the brake fluid. Need to readjust the parking brake. Some miscellaneous wire tidying up is in order. Overall, the swap itself is pretty complete. The truck could use some other work too - maybe new front coils at the very least...

Looks like a very nice project. I have a 4.8 in my project too.

Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
Nice job on the truck. I was wondering where you got the manifold flanges for the exhaust manifolds. A friend of mine has a set of 2010 camaro manifolds but no flanges for it. I was thinking about buying them for my build. If i can find the flanges. I saw where you swapped to a cable operated throttle body what is the advantage?

Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
Thanks Matt. I have a cable throttle body and was thinking about swapping to dbw. I thought it might be easier to mount pedal and not have to set up cable. How much trouble was it?

Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
Compared to other parts of the swap, the cable operated throttle was easy. I used my stock gas pedal and a 3' mountain bike brake cable for the throttle cable. Made a bracket on the manifold (since the engine was originally DBW) out of some aluminum angle extrusion and a rubber isolated clip. To anchor it at the firewall, I cut the end off the stock throttle cable, drilled a hole, and glued the end of the bike brake cable into it.

Thanks Hart Rod! I have a 2000 silverado that was wrecked and have the complete set up. DBC I will be using everything but a new harness. Thanks for all the help guys. It makes it a lot easier with all this information.

I'm still leaning towards a stock sbc for mine, but you made this LS swap look easy and straightforward with great documentation and good tips to keep the cost under control. Nice work!

Re: Will BBK headers for a 2010 Camaro fit a '72 Chevy C10 4.8 swap?
Thank you. This wasn't exactly a straight bolt in, but the problems tended to be things that can be solved with a little plugging away. If I had to do things over again, I would have put the engine stands in the V8 location, giving up the possibility of using the truck A/C compressor location in the future but trading that for better exhaust clearance.

I am doing the same fuel pump setup you are. The only issue I am having now is how I want to wire up my fuel pump. How did you do yours?

I finally ended up using gromets and through bolts with ring terminals on each end.

Yeah, that was my plan. I was just making sure you didn't have some other trick up your sleeves. Getting close to having my 5.3L in my truck. Can't wait.

Now I had the TH350 break down - it'll go in reverse, but not forward. Again, figured I might as well upgrade while replacing it, so I've picked up a used 4L60E. I'll get to work on that swap in the next couple weeks.
