Check KSL.com, and search for trucks in Utah and Idaho. Should be quite a few to choose from

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
Finding a good truck is kinda like mining for gold- Ya gotta go through a bunch of dirt to find a nugget.
Keep the antennas up, when you go look at a truck, know that you will most likely walk away, and eventually, the right one will plop in your lap. I was pretty fortunate- Eliminated most trucks before travelling to look at them, took a close look at a few that turned out to be merely piles of rust in the shape of a truck, then eventually stumbled across a one-owner truck in good shape in the configuration I wanted. |

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
Gotta be quick. Good deals on CL go FAST. You won't see any links to them posted here...why? Beacuse they have already sold. Most of the links posted here to CL finds have been on there for a long time and are overpriced.

I use SearchTempest instead of regular CL. I allows you to search multiple CL within a specified distance. |

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
S Texas. They are out there-yes you have to look at dozens before the right one pops up and yes you have to be quick. From around Waco down to Laredo along IH35 and East down to the Rio Grande Valley. yes there are the rust buckets, silly mods imho and goofy dealers, but some nice clean, reasonable, rust free (mostly) trucks. There was a gold/bronze '68 or '69 in Belton on CL and there was a nice olive Custom at a dealership in Temple for sale a few weeks back. Good luck and happy hunting!

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I just keep on the look out. Anytime the wife and I or son and I go anywhere, we are always looking. i am fortunate, I work in a local auto parts and all my regular customers know we mess with these trucks. I have had some really good finds from leads my customers have given me. The thing is, when you find one, you have to decide quick, time is not on your side usually. If we go look at one, we take the trailer and the money. We always try to let a seller know that we usually don't drive to look at one, we drive to buy them. Just my insight.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I got mine from Classic Auto Trader in UT. $9K for an original owner 82K mileage 350 CST step side with p/s, p/b and a/c. Took a risk at buying it without seeing or driving it. But I talked to the guy and he seemed to be honest. It cost just under $900 to have it shipped to NY.

When I was looking Dallas seems like they had more than most. Either on Craigslist or other sources.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
go to small local swap meets and small cruisein car shows /// some smaller autoparts stores have bulliten boards post a wanted ad/// place wanted to buy ads in a few craigs list areas near you say within a 150miles radius, post in autos for sale, parts for sale, barter, general, wanted etc the more places the better
start by talkin to guys that have one they usually know of others around the area to look at the more people that you take the time to talk to the better your chances i had loaded up my 71longbed work truck to sell junk at a swap one time got to talkin with a guy ended up comin home with a 2wd blazer and two sets of bucket seats/// you never know who u r talkin to

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I was on CL in Az a few weeks ago and saw several at what looked like decent prices. Albuquerque(not to far from you) had at least 5 or 6. Someone said check on KSL( that's a great place to look). I was on KSL last night and saw several. What do you want?! There out there but most guys know what they have and aren't going to give em away.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
I bought my 72 C10 longbed from a member of this board. recently I found a shortbed frame to swap all my good parts to. overall I only have maybe a grand into my truck. cheap route! BUT... lately I keep tripping over short bed c10's for what I think are decent prices. when I take a trip home from Columbia,SC to Burlington, NC I find them for sale all over the place. All under $2000. my current set up is a shortbed stepside. if you ever are in the Carolinas take a trip on one of the side roads around I77 and I85 but bring a trailor cause you will find a project. If I had the capital I would buy them up and sell them to you guys on this board. I just don't know why these people don't post them on craigslist. just a sign in the window in the yard.

Re: where are you fellas getting these trucks!
Funny, when I was looking for my c10 2 years ago I ended up buying it from Tucson. I found a lot of trucks in AZ and NM. Based on your original post, I think you may need to part with a bit more than $2K if you want a rust-free truck that runs, even in your part of the country.
AutoTempest is the car-specific version of Search Tempest, and I just used it to land truck #2, which I've already bored this forum bragging about (1950 3100). Also a Western find (Oregon). Like was said earlier, be patient. It took me 6 months of research to find truck #1. Also, I'm going to sound like the old man I am, but if a seller lists a phone number, don't e-mail them, don't text them (unless they specifically say you can), pick up the phone and call. There are so many BS artists and scammers on Craigslist any more that I won't even answer e-mails when I'm selling a vehicle. I just list a phone number and wait for calls. |
