Post rear window question

I have a 1968 k10 with a small rear window. To my knowledge the 68a didn't come with the small window. Does anyone have an explanation to this?

Re: rear window question

Well, are you sure it is a '68? Has the cab been swapped? What do the VIN plates and rivets look like?

Re: rear window question

according to the vin number it is a 68 but i havent looked to see what the rivets look like its midnight now so I will look tomorrow but it does have the side marker lights but only on the back so that was another thing i am worried about. i am the third owner and the original owner put a *new* motor in it so possibly an engine fire? im not sure but it is a k10 and the transfer case shift pattern sticker is still on the roof. I am pretty sure it has at least had a new paint job done to it which would mean they painted the interior too. the frame is in near pristine condition I have a picture i can show you but it isnt the best.

the hood was painted over the light blue for reasons unknown and the driver side rocker is as thin as paper but overall metal is in fairly good shape for the age

Re: rear window question

Yeah, I've researched the options for those model years, but I found another thread on hear talking about the same thing, another mentioned that it is possible that they used the leftover cabs for the previous year. I will take a look at the vin plate tomorrow and post my findings. The biggest thing right now that I think is evidence of a different can is the front fenders not having marker lights

Re: rear window question

It has '67 only vent windows but the roofline paint is '68 style, I assume that was repainted too. I would be willing to bet it also has the small '67 only ignition switch. Vin plate (with original rivets) and frame stamping would be a good place to look for matching numbers. I would assume cab swap but have heard of trucks being titled by the year sold. never seen it first hand just stories on here though. Looks like a nice truck.

Re: rear window question

Rivets are not original. The original are stainless flower shaped rivets typically referred to as rosette rivets. Cab must have been swapped or ?? That is a 68 4x4 vin so I would assume cab swap. Looks like a good truck though, have fun with it

Re: rear window question

Looks pretty clear to me.

Rivets appear wrong.

The '68 certification plate is missing that would be expected on a 68-69 truck.

Here is a control picture for you.

Re: rear window question

Yeah that crossed my mind but would they not put it there since it doesn't follow the legal requirements?

Re: rear window question

Maybe they switched rivets along the line? The ones in mine look kinda factory because it does not have studs in the center still but im not sure. I will try to find the original owner and see if they know anything on it

Re: rear window question

There are laws both federal and state dealing with VIN alteration. That is why the rivets, tags and titles are not permitted to be sold on or through the board.

A quick thread search will keep you up all night reading about dissenting views and I got away withs.
