T-Case question....

Yeah, Im a bonehead, I put this in the 73-87 message board, but meant it for here, so I brought it over here, mebbe you guys can help me out...thanks!!

Ok, so I have heard that you can stick the NP 203 planetaries toa NP205 then bolt all that to yer tranny, and have yerself a dual T-Case 4-by.... in the end it leaves you with a fairly bulletproof 6:1 crawl ratio....if this is the case, does anyone know where I can pick up an adapter, an for how much? and also, how much work is it to do suck a conversion?? I am building a new TH400 for my rig and I was gonna go with the NP205 cause Im tired of the 203 chain driven crap...and when I heard of the dual setup, I got excited, so any info would be much appreciated!!

Well, not a 6:1 ratio since the gear reduction of the np203 is 2.01:1 and the gear reduction of the 205 is 1.96:1, so you get a combined gear reduction of 3.94.

Click here for lots more information.

Devil's Ride, sorry I can't answer your question about the 203 setup but I just wanted to welcome you to the board. Seeings how your so close and all, were practically neighbors!

Good luck on the t-case combo, keep us posted on your progress.

Hey man, yeah I was just thinkin we were kinda near each other, an I find myself in grants pass at least once a month, so we'll have to catch up sometime.....
as for the T-Case thing, Im gonna have to pass for a while...my "poor college kid" income only allows for so much....:P
But I am gettin my TH400 an NP 205, so I'll just stick this TH350 an NP203 in a corner an keep it handy fer a while.....but yeah....too many ideas, never enough money....wish school wasnt so damned expensive!!!

Welcome to the board from another Oregonian.

Make sure you get the t400 specific 205. There are different inputshafts for a 4speed, 350 and 400. And I think at least 2 different t400 inputs.

Good luck

dont mean to hijack the thread, but does a double t-case fit under a stock floorboard in say, a Blazer? what type of offroading is this setup best suited for? mud and trail use, or crawling? how is the linkage setup for both cases?

Should fit in most Chev/GMC applications, least from what Ive heard, have a friend that has one on a heep too,but I dunno how it is fitted under there.... It ends up giving you a 4:1 crawl, which is pretty low for a street driven play truck, IMO, but would be good for some *mild* rock crawlin, good for mud an trail use as well. From what I have heard its good all around. I also believe that it uses a twin stick. IE you shift your t case to 4 lo, then if you need a lower ratio, pull the other tcase into lo, an yer set.....
