Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

JOJABOY and Mister B have been recently posted vintage license plate threads, and lots of people have posted their plates on those threads. I thought I'd start a thread where everybody can post their's in one place. I scored several more for my collection today, and now I have every year except '69 for these trucks with my correct county code. I have a '69 plate, but it is not the correct 12 county code.

I remember those p-up plates with a p after it. I lived in Randolph Co which is 56. You in Chambers I believe. My mother and brother live in Clay Co which is 17. I was born in Calhoun Co and now live in Western Ky.

That's right - 12 is Chambers Co. In 1969, all Pickup tags had an "8P" prefix, so the plate I have is actually correct for a truck, but most people don't know that, and think it is incorrect.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Here's mine. A fellow board member found it on ebay. It's an original plate, and was still in the wax paper from the state when I got it.

Not a state plate but this one is going on the front of my 71, original 1972 election plate.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Here are the original plates for my 69. I took them off when we moved in 1971. I can't run them in Wisconsin, but I may put them on for car shows when I complete the restoration.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Michigan YOM/Vintage plate policy: $35 and they stay on for as long as you own the vehicle. No need to carry any additional plate or stickers.

I had a perfect 1931 Michigan plate on my '31 A. Just had to touch up the screw locations a little bit but other than that it was unrestored.

Nice clean '63 plate ('62 plate with '63 corner tab) on the Grand Prix:

You are not allowed to run a Manufacturer's plate as a YOM....unless you happened to sneak it through before the rule change:

No dealer plates, either. I was too late on this one:

I got that one from our original salesman, still in the paper. It's for special occasions only.

So these are what found their way onto the car. I'm not even sure where I got these; I think they were just laying around in the garage, but now there's kinda some history there and I'm stuck with them:

I've got a set of 1949 Colorado plates on my 1949 Jeep CJ2A. I like the plates since they have the number 49 in them.

Sweet truck. Cool plates. So, wait a minute. Your dad bought a brand new truck the same day you were born? Bet he was in the dog house with your mom for doing that lol. I can just see her going through labor at the hospital, as your dad drools over new trucks, options, etc. And comes back with a shiny new toy

Dad and I picked up our '65 GTO the day after my sister was born (instead of going to the hospital for a visit).

Mom is still "mad" about that.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Not the best of photos, but here's my '72 with YOM plate:

There's a site on the web that offers reproduction vintage inspection stickers. Plan to add one of these to my windshield, a few inches above the current inspection/tag stickers.

I keep an eye on Ebay for vintage license plates.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Virginia also allows the use of YOM plates, one of three options for antique owners. There is a one time fee of $50.00 good for as long as you own the vehicle regardless of the type of plate you choose. Vehicles using "antique plates" are restricted to "hobbyist" use and can not be used for general transportation. Virginia issued annual tags and up 1973 with few exceptions they were white background with black letters one year and reversed the next. 1973 saw the introduction of the current white with blue tags using month and year decals thus 1972 vehicles will be the last to be able to use YOM. Attached are two of my vehicles with YOM, a '67 and a '69.
