Project "HOT WRECK" 62 Short box DUALLY
Here it is. The start of my 1962 C30 one ton Dually short box step side Rat Rod.
The 1980 dually is a cab and chassis truck so it has a very narrow diff. I will be shortening it to SWB, notching the 8'' thick frame at the rear cab mounts as to fit the 62 cab on the never style frame. Sectioning together four fenders to make two that are about 3'' wider. I will also need to cut the inner bed rails walls for clearance of the inner dually wheels. Axle flip in the rear and belltech 3'' drop spindles and one coil removed. Sitting on six 225/55 16. My goal is to have the above fabrication done by January 15th 2014. On my mark... Get set...........GO! Last edited by HOT WRECKS; 09-18-2013 at 01:23 AM. |

Re: Project "HOT WRECK" 62 Short box DUALLY
So I last week I removed the truck from the farm.
This week I removed some of the farm from the truck. Knocking some farm off! My son Kale pressure washing WOW!! that's a lot of red Eh! and this is what "HOT WRECK" LOOKS LIKE AS OF TONIGHT. Tomorrow off comes the front clip and cab. Already have the rolling frame and engine sold. And their coming to pick it up Saturday afternoon. Late Saturday afternoon going to look at a complete and running 1961 C10 fleet side long box for $400.00. Don't need it. But knowing myself... odds are I'm going to buy it. |

Thanks guys for the support. I checked out all you builds. Some petty cool stuff.
Coulter: Holly Sh!t balls that's a Kick A$$ Truck! Ta2Don: low 80's Eh! It was 48 deg when I packed it up for the night. That's the Great White North for you. Jmorales3181: Love those Indy dish rims. I once help a buddy install a Buick 340 V8 into his 65 C10 Its cool to have something a little different. All your guys ride are very cool and I'm very excited to follow all you progress |

Re: Project "HOT WRECK" 62 Short box DUALLY
Hot Wrecks, could you tell me about the wheels on the '80 dually?
Specifically: 1. Is it disk front brakes? 2. Are they steel? 3. Are they stock, if not what brand are they? I'm having to find wheels for my build. Thanks, Dave. |

2. Yes they are steel rims 3.Stock, came on the one ton dually truck I also have another set of steel rims that came off a 1985 GM chassis motorhome. and they are exactly the same rim. So GM chassis motorhomes are a good source for dually rims

Looks like this is going to be a really fun build for you! Thanks for keeping the photos coming too, makes it more fun for us.
to the site, I trust you will find everything here you will need for this, especially motivation when you need it most!! Your truck looks like an older brother to my tow truck, same color and all.

Re: Project "HOT WRECK" 62 Short box DUALLY
Welcome to the forum
It looks like I'm probably too late, but I would highly recommend keeping the original '62 frame and just adding the suspension from the '80 C30. That will be much easier than all the work building body mounts on the '80 frame. BTDT. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=481023

Re: Project "HOT WRECK" 62 Short box DUALLY
Welcome to the forum! Sounds like a great project. It appears that huge guard really preserved the front end sheet metal. Nothing better than having your kid(s) involved. What an ambitious plan. I can’t wait to see this progress. And a second thanks for the volume of photos. It helps the rest of us understand everything first hand and keeps it interesting.

Re: Project "HOT WRECK" 62 Short box DUALLY
Ok todays report.
started early this morning cleaning my Garage. Not only from the tear down of my 62 C30. But also from eight years of stored junk. And not good Junk either. You know junk junk like old projection TV, yard equipment, and an extra ugly artificial Christmas tree. You see this is my first build after a eight year hiatus. Been focused on the Dad thing. But now that my son is showing great interest in learning how to use tools and work on cars/trucks. IT"S GO TIME!! I don't know who is more exited, him or me.But I'll tell you it sure feels good to have all my tools back in my tool box and my shop/garage floor reclaimed. So when I stopped for lunch from the garage cleaning. I went online KIJIJI local classifieds. and found a bumper in Calgary. to replace my cow pusher of a bumper. My wife was at work so I bribed my Kids with a Slurpee into a trip into Calgary. upon my arrival not only did he have the bumper I needed but also the outer bumper brackets. Which was cool because mine also had cow pushing bars welded to them too. He also had a very nice tail gate and two doors..........Now I have a nice tail gate and two doors, that I really didn't need. LOL! I Think the tail gate is off an 80's step side I hope it will work on my 60's box So when my wife got home from work I gave her the good news...... There is more truck parts in the back yard. Funny thing, she wasn't as exited as I was about it. I also let her know that she was chosen to drive me up to my 1980 dually 37 km 23 miles away. Funny thing, she wasn't exited about that neither. So I bribed Her and the kids with supper from Wendys. She hates cooking, so that worked out good LOL! So off to pick up supper and a truck. Oh right the dually has no seat. I had to make this gem of a seat out of two RV cushions and a kiddies belly board. CHECK LIST -No insurance - No registration - No drivers side headlight - No mufflers, rotted out - No drivers seat - No working gauges -Can't really see over the steering wheel -Fingers crossed that I don't run into any RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) alone the way To dark to take any pictures but I made it home safe and sound. It was loud and very uncomfortable. Uh.... GOOD TIMES!.....GOOD TIMES!
