Lambrecht Auction Purchase
Hello all.....
I'm new to the forum and found you by doing a lot of internet searching yesterday while watching the Lambrecht Chevrolet Live Auction. I won the high bid for a 1968 C10 Longbed Pick-Up, miles unknown. This is not my first Chevy. I've owned a 69 Blazer, 72 Blazer, 76 Blazer, 95 Diesel Suburban, 98 3500 Dually, 2012 Tahoe.....(short list). I pre-bid on it with a maximum bid of $2,100 (the price I won it for) and was actually on the road when the auction happened. Wish I could have seen it in person, or online for that matter. The reason I bid on it was totally by chance. I knew I wanted a mid 60's pickup and this one just 'spoke to me'. I did a VIN search on it and it originally came with a L6 so someone added the V8... :-) Lots of unanswered questions that I will know better when I see it and drag it onto the trailer. My reasoning for buying this 1968 C10 is this. Millions worldwide knew about it and heard about it and googled it. It was the topic of conversation everywhere I went. I couldn't be there personally, but really wanted something from it. 10,000 people showed up, 3,800 registered to pre-bid, 500 cars sold in a historical auction, and I own one.... Not the prettiest, not for low miles, just because.... I'm flying to Omaha on Friday and picking it up to bring to Maryland. http://flic.kr/p/ggLqPz http://flic.kr/p/ggL537 http://flic.kr/p/ggL1xv http://flic.kr/p/ggL1oT Last edited by 68LambrechtC10; 09-30-2013 at 02:08 PM. Like franky69C10 said.
This is like a breath of fresh air. Most of the comments on the all the message boards are people *****ing and complaining about how much money these cars sold for, and how stupid people were for paying. But 68LambrechtC10 made a conscience decision, didn't pay more than he could afford and got what he wanted. Good for you!

Re: Lambrecht Auction Purchase
Hey, I was at the auction I can tell you there was an orange '68 that sold on day 2 for $4,000 that wasn't better than yours. If there was a "deal" at the auction I think you might have bought it. Have fun! There is a lot of angst all over about these prices - I listened to it all weekend at the sale. And I saw a lot of really happy looking buyers. That's life.

Re: Lambrecht Auction Purchase
Congrats on the purchase. Im glad that at least some of the prices were reasonable and I'm glad to see at least one of the many trucks make it here to the forum. A lot of the prices were unreal, and I myself have complained about it, but there were some very reasonable priced vehicles also.
Again....congrats on the purchase and keep us posted with pics of the build.

Re: Lambrecht Auction Purchase
FYI - you probably know this already, but they said there would be no security on the property starting today (monday). If you leave it there until friday I'm afraid of what you might find left of it! There was a place in Norfolk that would tow it to a secure yard for $50 and a $15/day storage fee.

Re: Lambrecht Auction Purchase
I like this truck alot. If it was mine I would get it running, go through the brakes, put some new shoes on it and clean it up. Oh, and I would replace that rear bumper... was never a fan of those.
It has that cool patina look that seems to be what people are looking for these days. Unless you have parts that are rusted through, I would just clean it up and put a coat of clear on it. And Welcome to the board

Re: Lambrecht Auction Purchase
There's no two ways about it. Most folks (if not all) overpaid for the vehicles that stayed out in the elements..especially when you figure in your flight, gas, and other expenses to get it home. That being said, it sounds like the history of the vehicle and the auction adds some nostalgia for you, and so that's hard to put a dollar figure on I suppose
Yours looks like one of the better trucks and better values, so way to go, and good luck with everything. Posted via Mobile Device |

I'm going to go through it...access the drivetrain, steering, rear end, change, fluids, lines, brakes as necessary, matte clear coat whole thing, install a new wood bed, but not gleaming new, distressed and faded finish like the rest of it.... |

Re: Lambrecht Auction Purchase
Always fun getting a new project. Though not sure about the buzz about the name & overpaying for $500 field trucks. One would think people are talking about Baldwin Chevrolet or Yenko Chevrolet or Mr. Norms Dodge.
