Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
Sadly, I had to sell her. My last day with her was 10/26/2013.
I was multi tasking, finishing up one last year of college, and working, and hot rodding. I think i made the "right decision" to sell her and get a commuter car that can take me to farther places. I was getting pretty good mpg with her (9-10) and i was driving 100-150 miles a week. The truck was frame off restored in my backyard, and had a brand new 327, th350, and 12bolt i all re built. All the suspension was replaced, and all the electrical, small misc parts, bolts, windows, doors, fenders, etc were brand new. the only thing original was the two side windows. The 67 stepside sold for 13,000 cash... I felt like I couldve gotten more, but i needed to get a newer car asap. I am having serious sellers remorse.......my neighbors probably like that im not going to be starting up my cammed 327 at 3:00am with no mufflers. ....I cant upload any pictures right now, but i will soon..Currently at work.... |

I don't mean to rub salt in you wounds but I know the feeling of "Seller's Remorse" and it can last a lifetime.

I feel your pain.
I had a 70 about 10 years ago I sold and kicked myself every day after the sell. Unfortunately there is only one cure.... buy another

I applaud your maturity to recognize the fact that selling was the right thing for you to do at this time in your life. Very commendable! We all have one that 'got away'. The sorrow will go away in time. What I always do to help me along is think about the next build. What worked well on the other truck, what you would improve or change. Then when the time is right, get another one and build it the way you really want it. Then don't let that one go, unless of course you need to.

I felt exactly this way when my father sold his 68 C10 that belong to his father . Especially since I was sole heir to this truck . That is why I spent the better part of two decades looking for it and I have it back now . That is the only cure for seller's remorse .

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
Thanks guys, i really appreciate the feed back!
Im looking through all my pictures of the build and hard work. I can't believe i sold her. I guess college comes first... Im kind of taking it as: i have the skills and knowledge to build another in the future and with getting my degree, money hopefully wouldnt be a problem in the future for more $$ build. |

For your sake I hope the new owner is not a forum member, and/or you don't have to see it every day. It makes it even tougher to let go. It's kinda like seeing an old girlfriend you really liked with her new fling.

It's just a truck...an inanimate object. Good to see someone who has their priorities straight. Finish school, get settled in life, and build another one.

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
Get through college, get everything on track, then get another one.
I waited until I was 35, well established, deep into my career, and money in the bank to ever even start a project. I was always terrified of having to sell for the $$$$. Now I don't have that issue.

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
This might make you feel a little better. I had a 4 speed numbers matching 1970 Chevelle SS396 with it's original buildsheet. It was my dream car. I sold it to purchase an engagment ring and band. Can you guess what happned next? Yup, we ended up splitting up before we got married. It'll be a while before I can afford another car like that.
I'll be back. I'm going to throw up.

Don't sweat it. More cash in your pocket. I'm building mine, going to College full time on the GI bill which forces me to maintain a C average and pass every class or they cut funding, and I'm still doing Army reserve which cuts a weekend a month. It's the sacrifice we make to pad our wallets later in life.

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
You can find another one, maybe even better and fix that one up.
I would HATE to have something happen to my truck: crashed, burned up, stolen, etc. but if it happened, I'd pull myself together and get another one. Maybe one with AC.... |

We've all been there and it does sting for a while. You can always get another truck when you're more financially stable.

Leddzepp is right. You made a smart choice and there will always be another truck. With that being said Sellers Remorse is real and you will always remember selling your truck and somewhat regretting it.
Check out the 1970 Charger R/T in my avatar. I bought that car in 1985 tired and wore out and worked restoring it untill 1991 then sold it in 1993 and I am still regret selling it.

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
I know the feeling. 10 years ago I bought my Duramax and had to sell the '69due to growing family. I had almost every part for a full frame-off, just never got the time to do it. I bought the truck in 1986 when I turned 16 and sold it in 2003. I still miss that truck and wonder if the guy still owns it and did he finish it. All I know is he lived near Sherman, Texas. I even searched this board trying to find pictures of it... No luck... Now that my kids are grown or nearly grown, God blessed me with a '70 to restore. Here is the last picture of it in 2003.

Yeah. Agreed. I have a little "softer" approach, but with the same point of view and outcome. Of course, I've been married 41 years now. And she's seen me through countless builds of motorcycles, cars, and a couple of trucks. I sold a frame-off built '72...and now I don't even remember why I wanted the money...Pay off some I owed on a Jeep, I think. But that seemingly stupid move made me pine away enough to know that I wanted to do another truck. And, what I did on that one...and HAD other people do...I did MYSELF on this one. And I learned enough on the first one to know what I did and and what I didn't want to do on this one. It's all about experience. And, I too applaud you for having a level head on your shoulders. Oh! And by the way, if anyone asks, I have three grown daughters. All are moms now. All graduated from college. Each of 'em have earned more letters after their names than I have in my first name. None of them would have EVER tried to separate their boyfriends/fiancees/husbands from anything they love. In fact, they wouldn't have LET their future hubbies sell a truck, bike, or beloved car for a ring/wedding/honeymoon/down payment on a love-nest. They must have learned that from their mom.

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
30 years ago I was sort of forced to sell a 69 nova SS, (it was in my dads garage). I heard the new owner tubbed it and raced it but never thought I'd see it again. In 2007 when my 12 yo daughter and I started drag racing a jr dragster guess what was running Modified at our home track? Yep, my old nova. Every weekend I got to see it making passes at the race track. Sucked at first but I got over it. It helped I had a 72 Nova by then but it did kinda suck. There are plenty more out there.

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
Thanks everyone, its almost been more than a week, i been literally
sleeping with my photo album of my truck... It was a way to relate to my family that used to hot rod back in the 70's. i guess it was a way to connect with my family, and now im stuck with a POS kia. This is going to be one of those moments in my life that i will always remember and regret FOREVER. It had everything, vintage AC, heat, lopy cam, looks, smell, everything a hot rod should have!!! and i sold it for a mere 13.5k!!! The most reliable car i ever drove taking into consideration my 72 nova. my moms 2006 scion tc had more problems with her car over my truck!! well here she is. |

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
If i may say,
If your not in college or in a deep financial situation, please, PLEASE dont sell your 67-72 truck. Its worth way more than you will ever get for it. the memories, the experience, the connection with the truck is priceless. once its gone, you wont get it back. these trucks are SO easy to work on, and do a frame off. There are so many vendors for parts, you can basically build one if you have the frame! You cant beat the feel of an old chevy v8; the sound, the feel, the smell, sitting a stop light with everyone giving you a thumbs up. you wont get that with a kia, honda, toyota, nissan, scion, and especially FORD. You will regret selling it, just like me. |

Re: Just sold the 67. Sellers remorse... BAD
I've been in your shoes. Ended up 30,000 in student loans even after selling a couple projects. Sold the projects to pay off the government crooks. Eventually you'll be able to work, save and find new projects or hobby toys. There will always be a bit of remorse because a good truck creates good memories... But there will be more memories. Honestly I'm forgetting some memories to make room for new ones
Cheers!
