Steering locked up for a second

I was driving straight down the highway and tried to make a slight steering adjustment and the wheel felt locked up, I turned slightly harder and it popped loose and was normal again. This has happened twice but I can't find anything. Any ideas what to look for?

Just my thought but it sounds like something in the steering box.

there is an "adjustment" screw on top of the box that alot of guys use incorrectly as a cure all to steering problems// that has more than likly been messed with and causing the problem// the cure is a new box

Have had that happen before at slow speeds before. That is the reason I always now replace the gear box. I suspected before the worm gear some how internally failed. I suspected my case was from sitting for years or maybe under water from a flood or something at one time. In my case there was a few hints before hand. Some indications of a occasional binding felt in a turn but never constant. Thought it was at first a pump acting up. I was only pulling into a parking place at a slow speed when it locked up not turning what so ever in a hard left turn. Since then replacing any projects with rebuilt ones after my experience. Never know how many miles is on a used box before they are shot or how many years they sat exposed internally to the elements or even water conditions. If it happens once you will be awoken to a steering box failure.
