Possible Trade

Let's start by saying I'm posting this because I want opinions; I've been working this out for a week and getting nowhere in my head. My dream truck is an original looking step side, manual tranny, an engine I can tweak for more performance (nothings nuts, just tinkering), and I would probably put in PS and PB (or at least disc fronts) if I can't find one with it.

I haven't had my truck for long (69 c-10 lwb) but I got a good deal on it and jumped for it. It runs very well, only issues were the shift lever arms were upside down (fixed now) and the carb needs to be adjusted a bit. Overall it's a great truck and in really good shape, probably 8.5/10. Mine has a 250 i6, 3 on the floor hurst style, radio cut out (kills me), after market steering wheel but besides that it's basically your typical restored c-10. I really like the look but w/out trim or a two tone it's too much white for me and dumping thousands on a paint job and other options for something that isn't my dream truck seems foolish.

There's a 1972 307 short step side not far form me and while it's not in mines shape, (guy wants 4k) the step side is more my style. The guy's offered to discus a trade but I know mines worth more than his. The few (crappy) pics I have of it (I have more pics than the below) seem to show it's just a truck that needs to go through the process. I know tweaking a 307 isn't nearly as economical as a 350 but again, original (looking) is a huge point to me.

I could manage to buy both but storage is a road I'd rather not travel down and really I'd just end up selling one anyway.

So here goes, I still need to see the SPID and go take a look but before I bother, what's your opinions?

The way I see it I have a few options
1) sell or trade my white c-10 and buy his
2) work out a trade
3) keep the white (and I know I'll dump money into it) and wait until I find my "perfect" truck

Re: Possible Trade

If he put that much metal into the 72, what else is rusted on it? He says "rust free" but I would assume there is hidden rust. My max price would be $2k, as some work is done but what else does it need to be complete.

Your truck is in great shape, I would keep cruising it and even look into a stepside swap / frame swap or shortening in the future. Or keep driving it until a truly equivalent stepper comes up for sale. It may not be your dream truck, but it is complete and runs/drives. Enjoy it, it's no fun having a project that doesn't leave the garage.

Re: Possible Trade

Thanks lowrollin. I knew I had been staring at this thing too long. Too many question marks and a large difference in value, it's time for me to move on.

Re: Possible Trade

Another option is to sell the truck you have and then with cash in hand look for a stepper. Its not everyone that wants a stepper so if you find one you want you should be able to cut a good deal on it.

Re: Possible Trade

Yeah I thought about that Already Gone but I'd hate to be without a truck for awhile. Between the truck, motorcycle, and full wood shop or equipment maybe I should sell a few things and keep cash on hand.
