Patina Trucks What Should We Pay?

I have been looking for a good "patina" truck.

What is a fair price to pay for a truck that is not yet running, lowered, etc. "Barn/field fresh"?

I am just unsure of what to offer when I do finally find one.

Any pics? What year, options? What kind of shape is the body in? And what are your plans...just get running or restore? A lot of factors to help decide the value of the truck.

Farm fresh. SWB wide box 63-72 model. w/ good patina.

No plans to paint.

Just looking for a solid truck. I want to the "Delmo" style to it.

Big difference in prices when you get out of the 60-63, 64-66 & 67-72 body styles. Especially when condition & options factor in.

Rust free straight sheetmetal on a swb truck is hard to find,... especially with presentable original paint.
Expect to pay alot.
Some of these trucks are bringing bigger money than nicely painted trucks.
But with the patina'd original paint trucks,... you can see what you are getting body wise.
That normally makes the suspension and drivetrain irrelevant.

I paid 850 and had to weedeat that ole farmers ditch because he wasn't able to. Floors have some rot, but structurally sound. Had to fix a bad ground wire on the head and she fired right up. It was prolly driveable at that point but I tore into her and started making her a daily driver.

Forgot to add, its a 1966, 2 owner, well now 3 owner, 292 three spd on the tree. roughly 85,000 miles Even had the build sheet in the glove box.

Picked this up about 2 months ago(1965 C20 with 292 and 111,000 miles). Just a little bit of rust in the front quarter panels. It had been sitting in the California desert so I have had to do the usual tune up, battery change, tire change, rubber seal change, etc. I think I did pretty good at $4500.00 - The shipping is what got me at $1800.00 to the East Coast.

I just picked this one up for $1900. It is all original as far as I can see. 283 with 3 speed column shift. The shift lever would not move back and forth just up and down, so I took the steering wheel off and did some inspecting, spray penetrating oil down the shaft and on the levers in the engine bay and by the time I got back to it, it shifted like a hit knife through butter.
I was bleeding the brakes and the left front line popped so I got new rubber hoses and bled the brakes and they work great. Now it is register and I am going to go get it today.
There is some surface rust and slight rot going on the lower fenders but the doors look pretty good for now.

I just paid $1100 for this 71 C10 V8 At PS PDB, the body is more beat up than the picture shows but very little rust. Drove it home but it would need brake and carb work to be a daily. Here in Seattle area I see a lot of running and non running beat badly rusted long beds for under $2000. The best deals I have seen around here are on square body SWB, I can find those non running with rust for under $2000 as well.

I can find LWB trucks all over, but no good SWB trucks (1963-1966).

How do you cut the bed and not ruin the patina?

I was thinking of doing an old painters truck look by having spilled paint running down over the side covering the spliced areas, maybe experiment with adding talcum powder to the spill to give it a chalky old look

These old trucks are getting hard to find. Especially in my area.

I hope this might help. Here are a few of the trucks I've bought and sold over the last 18 months. They have all sold between 5-8k. All trucks were very solid with good patina, inline 6, with nice or new interior.

Once I decided on a 64-66, I got serious on my search. I gave 1800 for my 65. Custom, comfort, chrome, BBW, running 250/3spd. 79 000 miles. Shipped it up from Arkansas.

I paid $500 for Cecilia a year ago, but I pestered the old guy that had her forever before he let her go. He was very particular that she go to someone that wouldn't take a chainsaw to her and appreciated her for what she was. Fine old detroit steel.








I can't say it's always good to let them know you love these old trucks, but in my case it worked out great. If an old timer owns it they might appreciate that.

EDIT: Just read that you're chopping it up. Just get an old truck with some rust on it and get to cutting. No sense in tearing up a good truck especially if they're rare in your area. You'll save money since you're changing it anyway.
