Changing Ignition Lock Cylinder

My ignition lock cylinder allows me to pull out the key while the truck is in ACC mode. Unfortunately this means people have left the car in ACC mode overnight and drained the battery. I have a 70 C10.

Would changing the lock cylinder fix this issue?

Can I change the cylinder without removing the switch and everything from the dash?

Is the cylinder specific to the year/model, or can I find one at any auto parts store?

Thanks for everybody's help

Re: Changing Ignition Lock Cylinder

Sounds like your lock cylinder is just a little worn out. Yes changing the cylinder should fix this. I had ordered a set from lmc and it came with the door cylinders too, soo its all one key now. All you have to do is remove the chrome bezel and using a pin turning the cylinder with the key will pop it out. No need to remove the switch portion.

Do not remove the chrome bezel until you have the lock cylinder out!!!

Re: Changing Ignition Lock Cylinder

I had a similar problem with mine. The key would come out in any position. It was nice because I could start the truck, pull the key, get out, lock the door and do things....

It wasn't cool because a few times, when I punched the gas, the keys would fly out and land on the seat....

Changing the cylinder was easy.
Disconnect battery negative cable
put key in and turn to ACC
put the end of a paper clip in the little hole in the key face and press gently
turn to the left slighty
Pull out the cylinder assembly

I bought one, brought it to a lock smith and had it keyed the same so doors and ignition were the same. AND PLUS ALSO TOO, my keys didn't fly out anymore.
