Daytime Running Lights

I have a chevy 2500hd and the headlights illuminate by themselves when it gets dark but the DRL do not come on at all no matter what time of day. How do I troubleshot this? I understand the truck has to be running and in gear for them to turn on?

Yes, those bulbs only last a couple months at last. 99% likely they're just burnt out.

Have you tried new bulbs? I've looked at bulbs that looked good but where bad and new ones fixed it

Re: Daytime Running Lights

When I take the bulbs out to change the connectors are always burnt up a little, so check that the connection is still good.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Might want to check the DRL fuse and relay. I removed the fuse in my 05 because I don't like DRLs. Also, a test light or volt meter may be helpful to check for power at the light sockets.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

those bulbs require bulb grease... and im not joking... and the harnesses usually get all burned up...

ive replace all of my harnesses with aftermarket, and use the grease religiously and my issues have gone away.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

I recently picked up a 2000 Silverado . When the truck is running the low beam headlights and the tail lights are always on and other lights are off . It does not matter what position the light switch is in or if I set the emergency brake . There are no courtesy lights turning on either at any time . I don't have the manual for this truck and do not know if I'm doing something wrong , if the switch is bad or the PO changed something . Ideas ?

light sensor fell into the dash on mine when it was new, also if you have a dash mat make sure your not covering the sensor

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Once you fix the lights, you can bump the light switch backwards to turn them off during daytime driving. This will help with bulb life. I kill my driving lights every time I crank it. It's habit.

This works for 03-07 only. 99-02 you push the dome override button 3-4 times quickly to disable auto lights and DRL.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

I checked the light sensor and it's not covered or dirty . Here is a recap of what is going on . When I first start the truck with the emergency brake applied all lights are off . When I release the emergency brake .. the low beams , parking lights , tail lights and dash instrument lights all come on . Once the lights come on , reapplying the emergency brake has no effect on turning them off and neither does the light switch itself . If I press the dome over-ride 4 times , all lights go off and then the light switch will work normally . If the light sensor was bad would it do this ? On start up with the emergency brake applied is the light sensor put in over ride mode until the E-brake is released ? Does pressing the dome-over ride 4 times shut off the light sensor and put on/off control in manual mode ?

Re: Daytime Running Lights

There are two filaments in the bulb, which is the DRL and what is the other filament for??
Looking to test with a VOM, but what controls them?

Re: Daytime Running Lights

look at the wires on the socket, there are only 2 wires thus the dual filament bulb is there just cause. the reverse bulbs are the same way on these trucks.
