Thank you very much for taking the time to post all those pictures and pointing out some of the real tell tale signs.

I believe you have a gm fender too. all aftermkt fenders that I have seen have the metal lapped wrong where the back of the cup is spot welded to the outer part of the fender . it`s kinda hard to see but the back of the cup on your fender is on the outside (the way it should be). the aftermkt is tucked behind the outer part of the fender. I also have a 68 fender with the gm sticker still on it and no triangles.

DaHos's pics tell a lot in my opionion. Also something that he mentioned sort of goes along with something that I've been suspecting. That is, that the stamping plants could have made some changes for whatever reason. They might have either found an easier, more efficient, or 'better' way to make those particular folds. Maybe started out with the diamond shapes and went to something different later. That would explain why an OEM replacement fender might not have the diamonds. This has been a helpful thread overall. I have a pair of 68 fenders that I cant use (I'm building a 69). They are really nice but have been painted so I couldn't tell if they were new or aftermarket. This thread will hopefully help me to determine that, so I'll have a better idea of what to try to sell them for.

I never noticed the triangle thing till I read about it here. I always dealt with OEM and just knew it was that. I took the triangle thing to heart, but just went and looked at the five GMC fenders I have, the two on my truck and three others all in original paint, and none have those triangles. All are 69-72. I have a pair of '67 GMC fenders, known to be OEM,that aren't here to check. Here is an original paint '67 GMC fender:

One must also remember that NOS does not always mean that it was made at the same time, or even with the same tooling, as the original production run. Many NOS sheetmetal parts were made well into recent years. I am not attesting one way or the other, but I know that my two NOS fenders, both pulled from boxes with stickers on them, don't look exactly identical to the OEM original production run fenders for which I replaced them.

That's true. There has been one shown that was made in 1987. Yet,another point is there are OEM fenders that came on the trucks from day 1 that look like this one. The wrinkles at the inner upper front will obviously not all be identical since they form randomly as the panel is formed. These panels are die-stamped in a press. There is no way to form these any particular way,as suggested.

Here's a 69-72 GMC fender:

I hope this is enough proof for the couple of members that had doubts that my Fender is OEM. I also hope that in future searches (if we will ever get more than 50 search results) this will help others in determining the originality of their fender they own, are buying, or selling. more than a few respected members have stated that it is OEM and a couple even stated a good deal at that. This should also lay to rest the rumor that an OEM fender must have the triangles, obviously many do not!

yes I looked but can not tell much from boxed fenders ... my main concern
was not really if it is nos but the chance of it getting damaged during shipping.
just read another thread about another board member just got a damaged rust
free fender from UPS ... I agree your fender is wat you say it is , no doubt ...
and it is a great deal ... If I lived close enough I would buy it ... I understand
from the pics that the only thing we can count on to prove a nos oem would
be the rounded edge where the side lights attach ??? Maybe some one could chime in, if that is so ...

That is not what you said earlier. You posted the same thing Elliot and a few others stated that if there are no triangles it is not OEM. That is not true, shown by way too many OEM fenders posted in this thread. Lets lay that rumor to rest.

There is the marker lights, the size of the spotwelds, and you can see how differently the metal is folded around the edges in the repops. I could garantee it would arrive undammaged by crating it but that would add to shipping costs. Before all this went down I would have worked a little with you to help on shipping but I feel you still have your doubts so I will definately look for another buyer. 1969-72 chevy fenders are plentifull both used and NOS. 1968 chevy 1968-72 GMC is a little harder to come by. If this hasn't sold by the end of the week I will put it on Ebay and we can see what its worth there?
