Final Frame Paint Plan, Input Please

TEAM:

I would like to try Rustoleum for my frame paint and will be brushing on all paints. Please take into consideration this will be a DD and also trying to stay on budget.

Here is my plan:

FRAME PREP
I have nearly bare metal from the firewall forward, with a few places of light surface rust (example of frame condition):
Name: After Wire Brush.jpg
Views: 407
Size: 71.3 KB

PRIMER PLAN
I plan on using this Rustoleum product for a primer:

TOP COAT PLAN
For the top coat I am planning on this Rustoleum product:
http://www.rustoleum.com/en/product-...tective-enamel

Question:
I want to use a hardener to assist the top coat in curing and also add to its durability; does hardener do that? If so, can I add hardener and brush the top coat on?
What are your overall thoughts of this plan?

Mahalo

I would highly recommend adding hardner to Rustoleum. It will make dry time to handle, drop from from a week, to a few hours. It also makes it much more durable. Spraying would be the best way to apply, but brushing will work in a pinch.

Good to know I am thinking on the right track.

Are all hardeners created equal? Or should I stick to a certain brand?

I have never used hardener in a paint before.

I like Rustoleum Satin black for brackets, pulleys, inner fenders, etc. My local TSC store has their brand, but I haven't tried it to compare how it looks. They have "Matte Black" which I don't know if it looks like satin, or flat. I buy their hardner, and use it in the Rustoleum. I think it is about $14 for a 1/2 pint.

Re: Final Frame Paint Plan, Input Please

with any paint it is a good idea to use their material all the way through the job.

I don't remember the name. Seems like it was a green label.

That is absolutely a good deal to get a frame blasted. Non of us would wire wheel the frame at a cost like that.
