My father and I put a remaned 383 in his 83 that has a 7 yr warranty. The motor is 9:1 compression, so it runs on 93 w/ no problem. HP is 425 and torques is 435 lb/ft and sounds nice w a 280 cam in it. We got it off ebay for $2400 to the door. Very happy w/ the results. Been in the truck for over 3 yrs and my dad loves to push the skinny pedal. just my $.02.

My 2 cents.Even if you go crate don't get rid of the original no matter how much of a core charge. I have a factory 396 /375 4spd 70 nova if I had all the running gear back!!!!
