Low profile air cleaner

I am looking for a low profile air cleaner, what do you recommend? I know when I put my cowl hood I still won't have a lot of clearance so looking for something.

Re: Low profile air cleaner

You should be abdle to put any air filter you want under a stock hood assuming you don't have a high rise intake.
I've had small blocks, big blocks, even massive caddy big blocks and have always run a tall air filter under a stock hood. Always had a spacer under the carb too.

big block chevy under a sloped 67/68 hood;

Cad big block. (now it has a stock one on it)

and another angle;

I can't find any better shots of the old small block truck, but it had a performer RPM intake (semi-high rise intake) with a spacer under the carb, AND a spacer under the air filter with a filter as tall as in the other photos, and stll (usually) had a stock hood covering it all.

You have PLENTY of air filter room.

Re: Low profile air cleaner

Spectre has some pretty cool carb hats that are low profile, they also have cold air systems for hot rods as well.... All of which would fit under your cowl hood even with your huffer....

Re: Low profile air cleaner

You should have a lot of room even with the supercharger. On my '72 402 Suburban I stacked two 3.5" elements and had room left over. Have you measured the actual clearance? Might not have a problem.

Re: Low profile air cleaner

Give details on exactly what you have and even a picture. I think that would help.

Re: Low profile air cleaner

What size blower are you running there are a few trucks on here that are running the smaller blowers with cowl hoods and have simple air cleaners on them... Sctojims truck I believe is one of them..

Never mind I see you have a 250 supercharger..

Re: Low profile air cleaner

yeah...plenty of room under these hoods for most setups.

i ditched the 2bbl on my 72 C20 burb in favor of a q-jet. i knew i wanted to run the big air box saved from my dad's 84 burb 350 w/ tow package but i updated the bottom half with a dual snorkel unit (thank GM for parts bin engineering). this sucker takes a 14x5 filter and will flow enough air for your average race motor. no chance of choking off that 307 while towing! just need to get it painted up pretty one of these days. oh...and i prefer an enclosed filter as it cuts down on dirt, mud and engine grime getting thrown up on the filter.

Re: Low profile air cleaner

I have a zz3 crate motor with a B&M 250 supercharger, and it barely doesn't fit under the stock hood.

Check with member Hart Rod.

His 68 has a blown motor, but I don't see exactly what air cleaner he used.

Re: Low profile air cleaner

I have a drop center 14x3 edelbrock air cleaner on mine now. The drop center gets you an inch or two lower.
