12 bolt rear??'s

i have a 12 bolt rear in my truck now and i have a 2wd parts truck with a 12 bolt rear they look the same the only differance i see is that the 2wd has 5 lugs and the 4wd has 6 lugs. could i put the 2wd rear under my truck and stick in my 6 lug axles?

2 wheel drive is coil spring usually. But if not, they have a 42.5" spring center while the 4x4 has 40" centers.

All the inards will work though. The axle shafts will be the same (other than 6 bolts) carrier is same but check the ratio on the 2wd will most likely be higher like 3.07 or 3.42. If you are using a gear ario of 3.73 or higher (numerically) you will need the carrier to match. You must match your ratio front and rear, I'm sure you realize that, but just thought I'd mention it.

right now i have the 3.42

the truck with the 12 bolt has either a 3.73 or 4.11 and that is what i want. i was just thinking it would be easier to switch out the whole rear instead of messing with all the guts. my truck is a 79 and the parts truck is an 82 2wd

Measure the spring perches on each and see if their different, if their the same it will work.
