Need help on speedometer cable, 87 R10 700r4

Speedometer quit working a few days back. Got it in at the transmission shop because there were some other issues that needed to be ironed out on my 700r4 rebuild. They can play with the cable a little and get the speedo to work for about a mile then it quits again. I am hoping its just the speedo cable.

Are these 2 piece cables or 1 piece? They havent checked yet and i am needing to go out and find a replacement. Truck has cruise control. Any help would be awesome. Hate that they have to tear in to the dash but it its what it is. Thanks guys!

Shop put it on a lift and said it is a 1 piece cable. All the parts stores call up a 2 piece cable for some reason. Either way, they are going back with the original one piece cable and hopefully all will work out the same.

Not sure if having the TBI system has any impact on how the cruise is hooked up but thats the only change i can think of from prior year models.

Early cruise control setups used a two piece design. Later year cruise was electronic and used the standar one piece cable. That could be where your parts books are going wrong.

Thanks bnoon. Thats exactly what i was thinking.

Thanks for the picture motornut. I was curious on the 2 piece design. Definitely confirms mine is a one piece.
