Lowering a 66 shortbed

Looking for a little help. I am in the process of a long restoration of myy 66 and I want to lower the truck to get rid of some of the open space in the wheel wells bbut also be able to use the truck for light hauling/pulling a trailer. Can you give me suggestions on lowering and tire combinations to give it a good look and be functional? Thanks

Re: Lowering a 66 shortbed

Easiest way to change ride height and have control over the height with a load is to add air bags to replace your coil springs on the rear. using a simple Schrader valve set up you can lower your truck to get the cool lowered look, then just air it up when you pull the trailer........You must of course watch out how low you go.......cannot be a low rider and then pull a trailer.

Re: Lowering a 66 shortbed

This is exactly what I did, I have 4" drop springs and my truck would tow it but on bumps it would scrap and scare the crap out of me. So I put the bags on it like Kieth says above.

I tow a 15' TT and a couple small trailers at times.
