Finally bought a Highlander tonight

More details to come, but I just bought this medium Olive 72 K5 Highlander tonight in Iowa. 96K original miles, same owners since 1990. Needs rockers but rust is not bad. Plan is driver quality resto.

Re: Finally bought a Highlander tonight

Looks like a nice clean ride.......if your gonna get rid of the soft top you might find someone to trade for a single wall.

Re: Finally bought a Highlander tonight

Very nice find. Good luck with the build.

If the K5 wasn't originally equipped with a single wall top you might have to modify (add) the location of the mounting nutserts along the bedsides. I saw a K5 recently originally equipped with a 2x top now with a 1x top and the holes didn't align such that the top was held in place with C-clamps.

Re: Finally bought a Highlander tonight

Originally a single wall top for sure.

Some more pics. The plaid on the front seats was replaced with another material. Going to order replacements from Truckseats.

Not bad. High optioned truck. Seats don't look bad. Still plaid.

Re: Finally bought a Highlander tonight

At least the back seat is in good shape. My top had both bolt holes for single it double. So don't rule Out the double if you find a nice one. It's stronger as Well but heavier. Good luck looking. I bought a whole parts truck just for The top and whatever else was Left I could Use. Then resold it for almost as much as I bought it for.

Re: Finally bought a Highlander tonight

The 72 that I sold in November had both sets of holes as well. I won't know if this one does till I get the soft top off, or pull the trim. Original hubcaps showed up today, now just looking for some 15x8 wheels to mount them on.

Re: Finally bought a Highlander tonight

Great find! Wish I would have held out for a nice original blazer like that instead of finding the first rust bucket I saw. Good luck with it.

Re: Finally bought a Highlander tonight

Are they the small hubcaps or the dogdish?

I don't know what this guy has and maybe he doesn't either. You would just have to call him.

I am about 75 miles away so I might be able to look at it.

Any luck on rims for those caps?there is a place I can't remember the name that makes repop rims that the original hubcaps fit on.
