What steps do you 73-87 guys run on your 4x4.

Looking to see what is available as far as steps or running boards, tube steps etc. there is for the square trucks. One of my trucks has the old style running board on it and I am not fond of it. I wish it hung down a little lower. I want to put two sets on my 84 & 85 K30's

I know the fuel tanks make it an obsticle but would like to see or hear what others are doing on theirs. I am only 5'7" so I could use a step on both trucks.

didn't really want to run steps, but wife & kid were complaining & screwing up my doors.
have Bully adjustable steps. they will take 300lbs, & if you use the frame brace, 500lbs.

front steps were a breeze to install, gas tanks were in the way for the rear bracket on back doors. after an hour of cursing thinking i was going to have to drop the tanks & breaking drill bits (they don't bend!), went & picked up this $12 tool & life was good again
an unexpected bonus(?)-couple yrs ago got left turned & the pass. side steps got snapped off with no rocker or tank damage, good if you ever snag them, at least they won't rip up your sheet metal

I picked these up (brand new used lol) for my 78,
wife and company find it easier to get in,
gona put the drivers side on soon, seems to help with rock chips etc.
then i won't pull on the tilt getting in either

I have some similar to that now. A couple of things I really don't like about them is that they are screwed into the back of the cab corner and also I think they are too close to the floor of the truck. I wish they hung down a little bit lower. They are nice getting into the truck but when I get out they are almost the same level as the floor boards. I don't even use them getting out. Don't really know how to explain it but they make my body feel awkward using them getting out.

Dieseldawg142, those aren't bad looking steps. I would really like to have a nerf bar/tube style setup for both my K30's. Too bad those are not longer/wider. Darn fuel tanks anyways.

This website says they fit my truck but not sure if I believe it or not.

This site says the same thing. They are two different tubes though. Not sure which one I am suppose to be looking at if either one at all. Starting to think maybe they just put a stock photo up.

yes those instructions showed that cab option too.
and didn't include rear wheel supports/ mount
I found some in a clearance bin tho close enough to paint
yes it's a weird feeling locking the heel in to step out,
not sure if I'd want lower you almost don't see them

Re: What steps do you 73-87 guys run on your 4x4.

i looked for months trying to find something like the ranch hand equipment steps. everything i found was the running boards, nerf bars or carr steps. i wanted something that match my grille gaurd and headache rack and i finally found them. i also ordered a air flow tailgate to match. just waiting for it to come in.

Re: What steps do you 73-87 guys run on your 4x4.

I had the same issues with my 78. I ended up buying Dee Zee nerf bar steps and making my own frame brackets to get the steps low enough to clear under the tanks and still have enough support. I did a thread on this http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=606290 that has a lot more pictures and description.
