Looking at the back of the molding the clips are installed with the spring side of the clip on the left , Fit the head of the "bolt" into the molding and using your right thumb push the "spring" end of the clip up and into the molding .

they are designed this way to fit into the molding easily so as when you are tightening the nuts the oblong head binds in the molding and doesn't turn also the spring keeps the "bolt" from moving around while installing the molding . As said before you can use thin pieces of masking tape to mark the correct position then install the clips and it should line right up less than 30 minutes to install both moldings .
