Center console in a 57?

Hello all. Has anyone built or had built for them a small center console for their truck? I want to keep the bench seat but some sort of a small console to put some speakers, maybe cup holder (haven't thought it all out yet). Just was hing some had pictures of what they did with a center console and a bench seat. I don't want to put bucket seats in but wanted to put just a few small "comforts" in since I drive it all the time. Pics are encouraged! Thanks all.

Re: Center console in a 57?

One more note, I did search and saw one where the console sat on the bench but I am thinking from the bottom of the dash to the seat on the floor. Thanks!

Re: Center console in a 57?

I think the big issue is "do you have someone sitting in the middle on a regular basis?" If your significant other loves to sit next to you and sit in the middle of the truck to be close bag the console idea. If they sit way ovoer there>>>>>>>> like my wife tends to start building a console that sits in front of the seat but is low enough for someone to sit in the middle on occasion. I've seen the welded up out of out of metal, built of solid hardwood, plywood, and mfd or partical board and then covered. You could build one out of mfd, cover it with material that matches the seat and then cover the middle panel with a piece of aluminum or even a piece of exotic looking wood flooring from Home Depot that would cost less than 5 bucks for enough to cover that area and look trick as all getout. You could probably rob the cupholder inserts from some vehicle in the local wrecking yard for a couple of bucks that would work.

Re: Center console in a 57?

the center console is about the worst place for speakers
as for cup holders look at orrieg's build for some nice swing away ones

Don't be lettin' no woman try to snuggle up to you...drivin' a truck is serious business. Make them sit on their own side where they can run the radio and heater controls while you keep both hands on the wheel.
