Nothing to do with “cushy” or quite, Its not always high disables of sound that causes headaches but Frequency and vibration on the ear drums. My interpretation of the OP was that it was a long drive, and repetitive vibration on the ear drum at a relatively low or 'quiet' frequency could definitively be responsible.
