Russell performance 672310 brake hose kit

Have a question...I recently bought russell performance brake lines for my 86 C10 V8/5.0 and noticed that the fitting that bolts to the caliper is round and not square like the stock one. I installed one last night and tightened it down, put fluid in and this morning when I went out to the truck there was a puddle of brake fluid and dripping from the fitting location.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Could it possibly be the round fitting giving me the issue?

I have and I had to bend the line cause it hit the caliper on the back but they seat fine now

Do you think there is any possibility of the fitting coming loose, since it's unlike the stock square fitting?

Do you have a picture of the way you have your hose routed?

Yes, used the one from the kit.

I've beaten my truck up for a year and haven't had issues. Mine aren't clamped either since they route differently. I will see if I can posta pic but mine were straight end and th factory as I recall had a 45* bend. I put on old washers bent it then reinstalled with new washers. It leaked a lil so I tightens it till there was no more leaks when my freind stomped the brakes in the truck

When I installed the lines I just let the hose go where it wanted to since the aftermarket lines are not as flexible as the rubber ones. That ended up routing the hose towards the rotor and then the hose circled back towards the frame.

Which banjo fitting does your lines have square or round?

I will also try tomorrow installing new washers and tighten it down more.

Mine are round. I did the same and just let them go where they want. I'm not off roading so I don't worry about them getting caught on anything

did you guys use the stock hardline location? i have them too and left em just sitting but had to make new one as they wouldn't reach the stock location..

Mine did not have that issue at all. They need to have a bend in the line like the factory one otherwise they act Wierd. But I can do full lock to lock on my 86 just fine. I will try and get some pictures posted tomarow when it's light out and hopefully not pouring freezing rain

Interesting setup, I didn't have to do that. I just ran it under the upper arm to the original hardline location.

I can also take a picture later, I am also going to attempt to slightly bend the banjo fitting since it might possibly be butting up against the back of the spindle.

I am also going to try using the aluminum washers, since I originally used the brass ones that came with the rebuilt caliper. Not sure if that will make much of a difference though.

The brake line is supposed to run beneath the upper control arm. Route it that way and you'll be good to go to the factory spots.

looks like a good fit!....if you put it on the right way...lol. should have mine next week.. the old hoses were crimped pretty tight with the old bracket! and now they look terrible so I got the russel ones....

ah i just looked at it again.. mine has square terminals not round ones so i could only fit it one way straight up... and if it ran the stock way, they were too short to reach down to the stock spots aired out, or close to aired out...

was a while since ive looked at em/put them on.


anyways, did the alum. washers work? no reason why the copper ones wont.. unless its over dirty on one of the surfaces..

I believe mine were copper in the kit. Maybe mine was a diff kit idk but they fit fine

I looked at the brake hose banjo bolt and the way it runs off the caliper and it doesn't follow the stock routing (which is through a grooved valley), if it ran the stock route it definitely wouldn't be long enough.

Anyways...I think I know possibly what the problem was...the banjo fitting was running sideways accross the caliper and I noticed that the neck of the fitting was hitting over the side of the ridge that the square fitting would set into. So I broke out my file and filed down the side of the caliper lip. I know this probably doesn't make much since now, but I will post a picture tomorrow. I will run fluid again tomorrow and see if it leaks...crossing my fingers...

BTW, I have the HD brake system.

Yah mines light duty and I ground down the silly lip on the caliper for mine so the banjo fitting would lay flat

Well I have thrown in the towel on stopping the leak where the soft line hooks to the hard line at the frame...so anybody want to buy a used set of russell performance brake lines???

Insidious, do you know if the 672310 will fit a 1991 R2500? I think it will but a lot of the parts listings kinda leave the 88-91 Squares out... Thanks.
