Seats

All right, I have been looking for seats for about a year now on and off and I havent had much luck.

What recommendations could any of you give me on finding seats?? Should I be look at wrecking yards, E-bay, or some other source??

It seems that everytime I find a set that I might like the owner wants way too much money, or they need to be recovered. I have been looking at alot of the interiors the guy's and gal's
have posted here and really like the custom look.

I want black leather buckets, and have been looking at BMW, Lexus and cadillac seats on ebay and really like them.

What kind of recommendations could any of you give me??

Just fishing for ideas!!!!

I think I would check the local yards...Find a nice confortable set, then if they aren't black leather, have them recovered to the design you want. Seen a lot of folks use Cherokee and mini van bucktes in out trucks, that may give you a broader ramge to look at.

I used Grand Cherokee seats but I am sure there are much more comfortable seats out there.

I would keep looking on ebay. I recovered my stock seats and after foam and covers and paying a upholstery guy to do the recover I am probably into the seats about $1000!!! I could have bought some pretty cool leather seats off of ebay and probably ended up with built in shoulder belts or power ect! I say if you aren't totally into the stock look go EBAY.

Here are my seats (I had the back seat to contend with too, unlike a truck)

I traded that burb to Frank (pickmup) for a few parts. A new inner and outer 70 grill, installation kit and a tach dash kit. Not a bad trade either. It was a pretty nice burb, but needed some rust work and didn't run.

Hey Dan, Think those will sit high enough? I bought my Silverado seat from the Van Factory in a strange town named Puyallup. They're out on Canyon Road East. It seemed expensive at the time ($350), but after what I've seen others pay, it's not so bad (and they installed it while I waited).

I went to the Van factory, but the only seats they had were twice that expensive, and I didnt like them. Did you get a Silverado bench from them??

I plan on customizing anything I put in. I would probably have to build them up.

Dano,
Those Catera seats are beautiful. I'm sure they will go for twice what they are at now. Black leather is very hard to find. I ended up with 2002 Mercury Moutaineer seats. Dark grey with light gray inserts. Heated, electric everything with a very small tear on the side of the drivers seat. I think I paid $375 for the pair. I got them from a "seat guy" at the all truck nationals last year.
The Mountaineer seats are a little low and I will have to build special brackets for them but they fit OK.

Good luck ...

I have been watching seats like that for awhile and they have been going from $300-400 Max!! Of course then you have to get them shipped, and thats usually another $100.

I missed out on a set of black leather, heated Saab seats by snoozing at bid end....

Portland

Dan, there's always a bunch of seats at the Portland swap meet - first weekend of April. You've been waiting a year, another couple of months? Yes i got my Silverado seat from the Van Factory. It was a take-out. They wanted leather, I wanted cheap. I still may try a "Steelhorse" or "SewFine" seat in the future.

I just got black leather power seats off eBay. I got them from LKQ salvage. They have salvage yards all over the US. They said they would send seats from one yard to another and let me pick them up for $25 (if they had a truck going that way)
The seats were out of a 2000 Chrysler. They are both power. It also came with the center console and back seats.
I set them in the truck and they look great. I will have to make some braclets but it looks like it should be easy.
It also came with the back seat but I obviously dont need it. I will however try and use the pull down arm rest from the back seat and make it fit between the seats in the cab (once I move the tank to the frame...
I will take some pics tomorrow if I get out early for the holiday..Its dark by the time I get out of work now ...

Here is a link to the seat i bought ... SEATS ON EBAY

Portland is huge

Dan, The Portland swap meet is huge. If you know the Expo Center, all the buildings are full as are all of the parking lots!! You have to park at PIR or the horse track and ride a shuttle bus. It runs Thurs thru Sunday. I plan on going down on Thursday and spend a couple nights.

Computer?

You think a GM computer would fit in the console? One out of a 93 LT1? Didn't mean to jump on anyones post, but you folks got me thinking of another way to hide the computer in my 67. Thanks Wootdog

It might fit in a late model Yukon/Tahoe console... or custom build one. You would also have to lengthen the harness. You could probably hide it under the battery tray. Depends on the harness and who you get to build it. I have a 96 LT1 that I will eventually put into my 71. I still need to find somone local to rebuild it...

There is a fairly wide space between the two bucket seats I have and I want to mount a shifter from a 94 camaro in it as well. I needs to be taller then a car console and I want to put a cd or tv in it. When it get warm I will try my hand at fiberglassing one in. I would also like to make a waterfall between the seats and move the gas tank to the back frame.

I looked a seats at swap meets for a couple of years.I found quite a few I liked but not many I would pay asking price for.I went to Charlotte to hang with Tim Christian and found a guy with quite a few sets on sat. I thought he was a litle high on his prices. The set I wanted was marked $150.00.I decided to think about it until sun. morn.
Sun. about noon I wandered by his space and found out he had marked everything down due to a back injury he was getting out of the bussiness.I bought Intrepid seats for $50.00 and the drivers was power.

On the same note, I went to The Pace Swap Meet at Arlington Stadium (near Dallas Tx.) a few years ago and Sun. morn the tank for my Panel was $250.00.4 hours later the same tank was $150.00.So it has been my experience that vendors tend to want to load and tote less home than they have on Sun. afternoon.

seats

I stuck with GM and used 69 Corvette seats. I didn't use the headrests, I thought they stuck up too far. I got them on ebay and put the new saddle leather covers and foam on myself.

I picked up a three section set at Discount Van, Truck, and Suv seats. I don't have them in yet. Still need to make the brackets. They are similar to Steel Horse or Smitty Bilt but not as expensive. These were about 600.00
