TF inner fender to firewall seals

I ordered the rubber seals from Classic Industries for the inner fender to firewall contact a while back and glued them to the inner fenders yesterday. I don't think the rubber is wide enough. I've got up to a 3/4" gap between the seal and the firewall.

Anybody else have this problem?? If so, how did you resolve it?

Re: TF inner fender to firewall seals

the rubber is just a thin piece of u channel rubber and should fit close to the cab
did you have to slot the hole in the inner fender to make it fit?
the only thing i can thing of is your front or rear cab mounts are installed wrong or possibly the radiator support is too high
your cab is tilted forward or the core support is high causing the gap
you could also try to fit a fender to see how they fit
i couldn't find a better picture but i don't have any gap on my 58

You wouldn't happen to have the Classic part number for those seals would you?

Re: TF inner fender to firewall seals

The ones I got are about 1" deep. I did not glue them so I could slide them tight against the fire wall. My inners set a little closer to the fire wall than yours. Here are two photos, one of the whole length, another with it pulled back to show the 1/4" exposed gap which with the rubber thickness is about 3/8"-1/2" total.

Re: TF inner fender to firewall seals

Thank guys.

Ogre is right that my inners are going to move some when I adjust everything with the fenders. My core support is probably going to need adjustment too.
I think this will close the gap some. Maybe about enough if I adjust them as Orrie is saying to do. I still wish they were a little wider though.

I shouldn't have pre-glued them. I'm going to have remove them and buy another set as I used super glue.

Btw, I didn't get them from Classic Industries. They were from Classic Parts of America and they are part #37-727.

Re: TF inner fender to firewall seals

see if orrieg can post where he got his seals, mine weren't as deep nor would they stay on without gluing them

Re: TF inner fender to firewall seals

Those are the same ones I got. I don't think very many vendors carry them. Classic was the only place I could find.

From my recollection, the original ones are a little more wide than these are.

Re: TF inner fender to firewall seals

the original rubber was also stapled on, part of my reasoning behind gluing them on

Me too.
But it seems if a person took their time and were careful, they could be put on like Orrie did, push them some to adjust and then squirt a little glue underneath to hold them. The super glue gel works pretty well for this kind of thing.

Re: TF inner fender to firewall seals

Plan is to get the truck running, drive it for a while to let the metal settle in then I will hit it with some glue. The FAM has a section just on all the places they caulked and sealed on the line to keep water and dust out of places it shouldn't be and to limit squeaking and wear from metal to metal contact.
