Hey there is some rust in there! Now I feel a little better about taking the roof off I can repair, blast, epoxy & paint while I'm in there.

Pic of the complete roof. Don't mind what looks like a leaking lift, I rebuilt the cylinders a while back and the mess from bleeding them is still coming out from under the post lol

Re: Hellion Customs 1964 Blazer

Next I removed the complete quarter panel. i did have to cut a spot on top rear quarter to remove it because of the order the panels are assembled at the factory, more on that later. Oh and for future reference the taillight panels will come off with quarters and and are not welded to the inner C-Pillar structure even tho with a flashlight and a inspection mirror thru the taillight opening they appear to be!! Lol

Re: Hellion Customs 1964 Blazer

To answer the questions about doors:

if you are just going to tilt the top of the "B" pillar back to vertical, then the rear glass channel shouldn't change inside the lower part of the door, as it is already straight up and down. You shouldn't interfere with the stock latches.

One thing I have had some issues with is when converting to bear claw latches. I used the large ones and they were close inside the door on my first build. The second one I made them remote(shaved handles) so I put the latch in the jamb and just the striker on the door. This also allowed easier routing of an "oh crap my battery is dead" emergency release cable.

Hope that helps!

Thanks. Yea I figured the run channel was vertical inside door I just was not 100% sure without looking at a door which I still don't have yet and by the time I get to my projects it's usually to late to go look at anything anywhere. This one I will be keeping the stock exterior handles on.

Re: Hellion Customs 1964 Blazer

Next thing to do was get the rest of the front floor cut out. I left all the factory braces in for now until I figure out a final plan for the firewall.

Re: Hellion Customs 1964 Blazer

Next I took the right side quarter panel off and out falls 7 newspapers dated 1/21/66 folded up and tied with a string. There is no evidence of any panels ever being off or replaced and they would not fit thru taillight hole so we can only assume they got put there on the assembly line. Maybe truck is a 66 and not a 64.

Thats kinda fun (the newspapers) I get excited when I find a screwdriver in a project car. Anyway, read through this thread, you did a regular "Buffalo Bill" on that body! Very cool idea, can't wait to see it 's progression. I'll follow.

Re: Hellion Customs 1964 Blazer

I saw a long wheelbase panel with huge aluminum framed windows for sale a few years back and I had similar ideas. Too ambitious for me though...
I will have to live vicariously through your build. It seems you are up to it!

Yea it's always cool finding anything in an old car especially if it tells any kind of history or story of the cars life.

Well, I will build the entire floor from flat sheet. But I am still undecided on the exact plan because the factory front braces are shaped to support a 'seat riser' area and continue up the firewall to incorporate the inner fender mounts which I won't need because the inner fenders I will be building will not attach there anyways.
Sooo....I really want a 'flat floor' thru out the truck, and it will need some sort of support and body to frame mounting locations obviously. I think I want to make all the supports and mounts from scratch also but I don't want to just use some box tube or whatever so I came up with a pretty cool idea for all the braces, just trying to figure out a way to build them without it involving 100+ feet of welding lol. Stay tuned!!

Lol Yea it's amazing some of the mods people did back in the day. I saw a 60-63 years ago at the swap meet that had aluminum framed roll out house windows in it!!!

Not really. I have been so busy with customer projects and I picked up a 53 Chevy COE, So most of what little bit of free time I have had recently I have messed around with it.
I did get the cowl off of the Blazer in preparation of reversing the cowl to firewall flange to shave the gutter area. I did some clean up stuff on all the flanges and pinch weld areas trying to get ready for media blasting. Also I have been planning and gathering parts to build a jig on v-track wheels so when I cut the body I can just roll it forward and everything should align pretty dam close.
