76; K10, need igniton help

I am having issue cranking the truck. I have figured out the problem but I cant seem to fix it. It was all in the ignition switch and neutral safety switch alignment. I can unbuckle both switches and put them in spots to make the truck crank but every time I bolt it back down and move the shifter thru its gears it falls back out of alignment. If the neutral safety switch is supposed to be slid all the way to the left when in park(that's what cranks it w the switch loose). So when I pull it back off ,after shifting thru and returning to the park position, the neutral switch is not back all the way to the left but it stops on notch over to the right. By hand that switch is very difficult to move into that left hand position, is this the problem(the old one moves freely)
Can someone walk me thru the proper way to align these two switches, any help is appreciated , I've had it apart 5-6 times with no luck
