1977 Short Bed 4/5 drop question

So I'm going to be lowering my short bed come this Monday. I'm going with a 4/5 drop. 3" Spindles in the front and 1" coils with shocks and in the back a flip kit with shocks.

My question is, I'm running just my stock steelies with 235/75/15 Rubber.

Will I have any issues with rub or hitting on anything?

A 29 inch tall tire in the front with 4 inches lowering will rub the fenderwell when the suspension bounces.

Woops, I thought they were 27in. Looked it up and shows 28.9in.

My 235/75s didn't rub at 5" of drop but did at 6" I now have a 225/70 in front and a 255/60 on rear side wall heights are with in 1/4 inch

I just want the back to sit even with the front or slightly higher than the front, I don't want it lower in the back

Check the back spacing on your wheels. With 3" spindles some stock wheels will hit the control arm. I'm running 3" spindles, and 6.5" ralleys, even with the arms trimmed my wheels hit.

How do I go about measuring the back spacing? The larger the space the better? or the narrower the better.

When you say it's hitting the control arm, does it hurt when turning, hitting bumps, or just hit all the time?

Lay a straight edge across your rim and measure down to the mounting surface.

If you have the stock 7" ralley wheels you'll be ok. I think even the plain 6" wheels will clear. Van ralleys that are 6.5" wont clear.

My truck is still being built. The 2 times it's been down the road, I've knocked off the wheel weights. This happens making sharp turns.

Honestly, I'd go with Western 2.5" spindles, and a 2" coil.

Just looked up your build thread. With those wheels you should be able to run a 3" spindle. I know I had 6" plain steelies on my truck the first time I dropped it and nothing hit.

I used Belltech 3" drop spindles and had to trim a little metal off the control arm for clearance. I have the stock rallye rims and they hit the control arm when it's up on the jack but not when it's on the ground. I have 235/70 tires and one coil cut for a little more drop and have had no problems with rubbing. The brand of spindles you have will make a difference and it's also the best time to change the front brake lines if you haven't already while your working there. You will have to tweek the brake lines for clearance.

I had to run 17" wheels to clear the LC arm
