69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
Has anyone ever tried putting a 69 Charger fuel door on a 1971 C10 in the stock location?

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
I've always thought those were awesome, but can't say that I've ever saw one on a 67-72 C10. I would think the overall diameter of that style filler would be much too large to place in the trucks stock filler location without some serious fabrication. Maybe someone could photoshop one in so we could see how it would look.

I thought the ones that came on the charger may be to big, but I know that they use smaller versions on British racers, like MGs, and old race boats.

I always liked the 71-73 Mach1 pop open gas caps.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
That would be close to what I am thinking. The $140 price is a bit high. Is that a cover that goes over an existing gas cap or is the actual cap built in?

Here's one for $50 that looks smaller. http://www.mooreparts.com/938-AC2012...FcyhOgodi3kA9A

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
It is a actual cap. You pop the lid open and the fuel filler neck is right there. The lid on the factory pop open caps had a seal that sealed the filler neck. the one in the picture above is a aftermarket version that has the screw on cap under the pop open lid.
Here is a factory one and how it worked.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
One site I saw listed the Mustang cap to be around 5.6". I dont think that the Charger one would be much larger. I need to get a hold of one and put it up against the truck.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
I have one of these in a box somewhere. I thought it would look cool recessed in the side of my panel. Then I forgot about it and then the panel got painted .... oops.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
Considering the size I would think most of the caps pictured would just be to large to fit the stock contours of the cab ?

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
It looks like the caps on the muscle cars will be to big. The off-road one from Mooreparts.com looks like it is physically smaller. I am going to try an contact them tomorrow.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
DreamRyder1963; it's coincidental that you brought up this thread. I'm going to be doing exactly the same thing you suggested except mines going to lay flat on the bed floor above the rear mounted fuel tank. my truck is a 1968 short stepside, complete frame off restoration. the fuel cap I have came off of my very first car and it's one of the few things that I saved from it. everybody tells me they think it should look really Kool. another suggestion would be to mount it on top of the left rear fender.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
It would definitely look cool recessed in the bed floor. I don't think it would look as good on the fender. I would like to see how you do it.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
Will do. trucks in paint jail right now and I need to buy the wood for the bed still. my only concern is that the fuel will not leak past the rubber grommet when I stand on it.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
If you're willing to blow $150.00 on a fuel cap / lid, (a Ford no less) just mill the interior lip with the screw holes completely out, remove and gut the cover it self with the rubber gasket and install a small screw on Stant cap that works with a conventional fuel fill neck.
If you don't want to go to the wrecking yard, the fill neck brackets we use are $20.00 from Classic Industries NEW. Poof Done, money and labor are no object, even though I personally went cheap.

Re: 69 Charger Fuel Door on 71 C10
I did a little more research on the cap from Moore Parts. It looks like it is made for a Bug and fits a 2" opening. What size is the stock filler neck?
