V8 Electric Cutouts from China. Any experience??

Looking at various options to make my '66 Chevy C10 more anti social.

One option is having a pair of cutouts fitted to the headers to then selectively terrorize cats n dogs etc.

These are on Evilbay, from China. Price per side with free delivery.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350803969660

My question is, has anyone used them before, what is the quality and longivity of these parts??

I have no access to anything like this in the UK.

Thanks for your replies

You should check out Markeb01's build... Fairly recently he installed some of these cutouts with some minor longevity issues. IIRC...

Summit Racing sells some decent manual(cable operated) ones. Have used them and just mounted the push/pull part under the seat.

Re: V8 Electric Cutouts from China. Any experience??

I actually have Doug's cutouts, and I believe they are made in America, but who knows for sure anymore. The only issue I had was one of them died when it was nearly new. I called Pertronix/Doug's and had a replacement on the way immediately. They have great customer service and no complaints with them. Any body can produce a defective part. It's how they handle the issue that matters to me.

I spent a lot of time researching the various products on the market before I invested in these, and there are many complaints about the carburetor butterfly style not sealing well after they're used for a short time. Some sit flush in the bore, while others have a notch for the plates to shut against which I assume would work better (at least theoretically).

I also had my son whip up a pair of block off plates I carry in the truck, so if one of them ever fails in the open position, I can simply remove the electric portion and block off the pipe.

The electric cutouts are the most fun item I have ever owned on a motor vehicle, and we use them virtually every time we drive the truck. In Washington State they are only illegal on a public highway/street. This means they are legal on private property (like parking lots). In California any exhaust cutout is illegal period, in use or not.

I'd also be concerned about the seller's feedback rating. 99.2 is not very good here in the US. Looking at his neutral and negative feedback, it appears much of what he sells doesn't fit the application or work very well.

That is very important.

Thanks for the replies Mark and everyone else.

The search goes on.

I would read thru the feedback from the seller to get an opinion of them.

Re: V8 Electric Cutouts from China. Any experience??

Hello Rian,

Thought I would share my experience. I have a QTP Quick Time Performance 3" cutout on my daily driver Camaro. It has been on the car since Dec. of 2005. I have had zero issues with it. I use it all the time. I have it welded in the I pipe just before the muffler. With stock manifolds and cats I leave it open most of the time its about the same noise as a true dual exhaust. My Camaro has the 3" single pipe from the y pipe in front back to the crossflow muffler.

I had it installed professionally due to the exhaust being stainless theres was no way for me to weld the cutout in.

It has a really cool switch that has a light that is red when the cutout is closed and green when it is open.

I bought the cutout and the QTP electric cutout from Summit racing.

Re: V8 Electric Cutouts from China. Any experience??

I'm looking for a set of mid length headers for my 63 C10. Every time I search all I find is long tube or mid length for 67-72. Any advice would be awesome.

I also use QTP electric cutouts. I am very happy with their performance.

Greg.
