Thumbs up 1972 suburban fuel sending unit problem

Hi Guys. I just replaced my fuel sending unit on my 1972 1/2 ton 2x2 Suburban ( 350 automatic trasmission . The old one had 2 lines on it .I replaced it with just the one line sending unit .Now the gas is flying out of the old hose that was for the second line .How can I stop this leak without changing to a 2 line unit ? Also why is the gas coming out of the line and where is it coming from ?
Thanks in advance
