Vintage Air Drain Line

I did not want to drill another hole in the firewall for the drain line so we made the hole through the floorboard right at the area where the flat section meets the angled portion. That way the water will drain out through the floorboard. We extended it about half an inch below the floorboard. Now the water runs out straight to the ground. We filled in around the hole with a rubber compound putty to secure the tube so that there are no rattles as well as eliminating the open space.

A while back there was a post, on this list, about T'ing the cowl vent drain into the VA drain line. I kept the cowl vent so that is the way we are going to drain it also - I think that's a good way to run the drain.

In my '59 is there a way I can make a drain? where does it normally drain at?

I get nervous about hidden drains were you may not always be checking for problems. The VA one thru the firewall comes out under the battery box and drops straight down. That is how I ran mine, black on black and you cannot see it (pic is with 2000W light shining). You can only see it on the inside if you look under the dash.

After filling 45+ holes in the firewall, I am a bit reluctant to make more, even tho I know I really need to - but exactly where........ :)

on truk i ran the drain straight out the right side behind the fender.
hard to see in this pic under the va unit, but you can see where it goes behind the old fresh air vent.

i don't think your truck has ac other than 2-55

Why was there so many holes? my truck barely has any

Holes for cables, fasteners, screws, heater and hoses, steering, drain, bolts and rivets. Relocated the PB the person before me had installed too low, + a few I probably don't remember....45 is a close number....

But his pictures were from an AD and not a TF, so the battery box is under the floor. In this application it's wide open, and very visible.

I drilled a hole thru the side panel, put brake tubing in the angle I wanted and welded in place. I then put about 15" of hose on the end and ran it below the fender to drain. Here's a pic showing the tube...Jim

I mounted mine so that it would fulfill 2 desires. One that makes it easy to fix a stopped up drain problem by simply disconnecting it at the plastic tubing/solid tubing connection. Second I did not want to run it through the firewall (creating another hole) with the water running down the firewall. I did not want the water running down any metal. I wanted it to drip down onto the road. Plus the fact I did away with and covered up the cowl vent as well as the side vent.

I did just this. I t's my vend drain and my vintage air drains to empty out of the same hole.
