Very nice restored 69-72 tach dash

Here we have a ready to install fully restored 69-72 tach dash. All gauges including tach are good used GM parts that have been tested for function and the needles have been painted. This one comes with a NOS tach lens, a rebuilt speedometer head and new #168 bulbs. It has the same high quality workmanship as all of my restored clusters.

It will also come with a new tach harness that I make here. Your choice of point style or HEI terminal end.

Shipped and insured for purchase price of $550.00.

Thank you for looking,
Tom

Re: Very nice restored 69-72 tach dash

It is not the weekend anymore but another one is coming soon

I may even throw in some LED's for an interested buyer.

I will even go one higher and give the new owner a 90 day warranty against parts. If any gauge on this cluster fails within 90 days of purchase, I replace it free and cover shipping both ways. No a bad deal for 40 + year gauges.

Thank you for looking,
Tom

Re: Very nice restored 69-72 tach dash

I'll take it with a HEI terminal end harness. PM me your contact info and I will send you a postal M.O.

How are you incorporating the LED's? Any modifications required to the truck wiring or is this all in the cluster and basically plug and play?

Thanks!

Hi Wayne,

I am happy you got it and you are happy with it. It was/is a pleasure to do business with you. Greenie will be a very nice truck with you are finished with it. It looks like a truck nice to start with.

Take care and thanks again,
Tom

Re: Very nice restored 69-72 tach dash

Tom do you run a tach filter with the HEI ignition? My rpms read high with HEI

I leave it up to the customer. It is a debate that is older than the correct color of dirt. Some will say they need a filter and some will not.

When you say your RPM reads high with HEI, what are you comparing it to? Did you just remove a point style ignition system and replace it with a HEI?

How much higher is the RPM than you think it should be?

If you need your tach calibrated, I can do that for you. A filter is more for helping with a smoother needle movement than correcting inaccurate RPM's. If your RPM's are consistently incorrect (meaning at idle it is 400 RPM higher than before), a filter will not help. Ignition systems create a lot of noise that can weaken the pulse signal and cause the tach needle to be erratic. Another thing to consider is you would more likely need a filter on a point style ignition than an HEI.

So in a nut shell, it will not hurt to add one but may not fix your problem.

Let me know if this helps.
Thank you,
Tom

Re: Very nice restored 69-72 tach dash

I downloaded a calculator and witha 28" tall tire in fourth 1 to 1 at 70 mph it should be at 2549 rpm if I remember correct. I am at 3250. At idle it is correct. From what I read HEI sends a different pulse then a points distributor. These old tachs are wrong a lot. Everyone says put a filter on it.

Thanks,
Ronnie

851 RPM difference is a lot but not enough to consider it a 6 cylinder tach. For the price of a filter, I would say give it a try and see what you get. Do you know anyone with a Snap On digital timing light? They display RPM based off of pulse on a plug wire and are a great way to check tachometer calibration at a given RPM. I do admit that the old factory tachs do have some variation between them.

Can you share what you have read that states a HEI pulse is different than a point style? I am very curious about this as my understanding has always been that an 8 cyl pulse is an 8 cyl pulse.

Re: Very nice restored 69-72 tach dash

I'm actually having the same issue with a after market tach I borrowed from a mechanic. idle it is right on but going 35mph in 4th it says I'm turning 4500 rpm's. he loaned me another tach to try but haven't gotten around to it yet.
