I guess my instincts were right the truck in Post # 1005 is indeed a BB YG8 Highlander. I wonder if someone replaced the carpet with the rubber floor mat or the factory was out of carpet and used the rubber mat or if the truck was a special order for a customer maybe the customer didn't want the carpet so the rubber mat was installed. If that was the case would carpet delete show on the spid as I'm sure there would have to be something on the build sheet denoting the carpet delete.

I agree very nice resto and its to bad the seat was't redone in the Avocado plaid but then I'm thinking the average person wouldn't know where to source the plais material.

My plans with this truck is turning everything that's not yeallow metal in the interior to black and painting the truck flat black with yellow and lime green pin stripes. As well building a tonneau cover for the bed. At some point change it to an online 6 and hotrod that out. Goal is to get it to feel old school hot rod with a feel of rat rod. Going to make a false wood bed out of barn wood.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Is it worth $3,000 ? Seller is firm at $3000, I don't want to spend more than 2K for it. Running, driving, licensed, Highlander. 2 new batteries and 4 new tires. Bed-wood is gone.She looks quite ruff but this is the only second highlander I have run across.

I see its a big block and all the A/C stuff is there even if it doesnt blow cold that is worth a lot. Are you planning using the truck as is or restoring it. 2 or 3000 isn't that much difference. Its your money but try to split the difference if you really want it.

Will try to split the difference. Its a wait n see situation at the moment. Truck is in storage and waiting for the Title to be shipped to the trucks location. I told seller he must have title in hand at location while I look it over. Title is in transit to trucks location. Son is selling it for his father.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

That's a VERY good price. If you don't want to pay that much, you won't be buying a semi-rust free C20 Highlander Custom Camper with a big block (with or without a banged up door) in the foreseeable future. I passed on an identical truck that was also a longhorn for 4500 and I've been kicking myself ever since.

X2....except I didn't pass on one. I'm negotiating on a barn find right now that hasn't run in seven years. I'm trying to get the family down to 4500.

If it's the truck you want, buy it. I have let far too many deals go trying to squeeze another dollar out.

Here's the rule we use here for toys we want.

If you can't make a deal you like, go buy the other one. If there is no other one, there's your answer.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

And just to show how much of an idiot I am... I don't think it's posted in this thread, sorry if it's a duplicate. Anyway, this is the Longhorn of which I speak for which I am still kicking myself. It was LOADED. Now, having said that, I did already have the white with blue plaid truck in the garage, so I found it extremely difficult to justify to the spouse (and myself) that I needed another white 72 chevy with plaid... Wah. Ha. Anyway, if I ever got the chance again, I would jump on it.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

excellent point Larry, ha, no argument there. Perhaps the correct term was "afford"... But, like I said, if I got the chance again, I'd find a way! I screwed the pooch. I have tried to locate it since it slipped away, had a few leads, but no luck finding it. Truly a nice one.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

the fade on those doors sure looks like it matches the rest of the truck, which should make it a 71, I agree, but who knows... Would be worth a SPID peek or even a look under that seat cover would tell the tale probably.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I've discovered quite a few Highlanders that had been reworked over the years, like the plaid seat recovered, door panels repainted , carpet removed and replaced with a rubber mat to name a few. Today on EBay ( attached link) I find this 1972 Custom/Deluxe for sale in Alabama. I look at the pics and the first thing that jumps out at me is the DG4 mirrors. Then scrolling through the pics I see the dash pad and door panels are black but the sun visors and seat belt retractior holders are parchment and it has black black carpet and it has the original door edge molgings. Lastly it has A/C and tilt which are included in the biggest discount YG8 Package. No spid posted but if this had been ordred with the grey plaid seat it would have been a very nice looking truck when new. In fact it really wouldn't take whole lot to get it back to being a Highlander ( I'm 95% sure it is ) with great options and colors.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Chevrol...53.m1438.l2649

Promo package codes and savings over individual option costs.

A= YG6 Plaid Trim, Special Wheelcovers C10 (PA1) or
Chrome Hubcaps C20-30 (PO3), Chrome Front Bumper, Upper Bodyside Molding (belt, pickups only), Door Edge Guards and Below Eye-Line Mirrors (DG4) A $94.50 savings.

B= YG7 (includes A) Adds Turbo-Hydramatic Trans., Power Steering and Tilt. A $178.50 savings.

C= YG8 (includes A and B) Adds A/C and Tint. A $260.50 savings.
