Porpotioning Valve

ok... so I've done a bit of reading. Disk / Drum setup... 3/16 lines to the front from front reservoir - 1/4 lines to the rear block and then 3/16 to each drum. Ok... I was provided a McGaughy's proportioning valve for the rear and I understand that's to keep the rear from locking up - but the input and output on the valve itself are 3/16 so now I'm wondering if I go down to 3/16 to go through the valve why am I not running 3/16 all the way back at that point? Am I making sense here?

Re: Porpotioning Valve

I'm going through the exact same thing right now. I had already bent up my rear 1/4" line, and then decided to use a Wildwood proportioning valve like you've got. I asked all of my buddies who own hot rod shops and they suggested to just use 3/16" line all the way through the braking system (front and rear). If you're using a factory style GM master cylinder, then you'll have to get the 3/16" line nuts for the 9/16-18 and 7/16-20 line connections at the front and rear ports. GM tried to make all of these connections fool proof by making them all different sizes, but that makes it a pain when you're building a new system from scratch. I'm going to be running to the local NAPA store in a few minutes to see if they have these line nuts. If they don't, then I'll be ordering some on-line.

I'll keep you posted on what I find out. It might same you some headaches.

Re: Porpotioning Valve

I went to the local NAPA, and they don't carry the 9/16-18 and 7/16-20 line fittings. I went to the speed shop in Hesperia, and they had the fittings for $1 each. Not a bad deal at all. I spent the rest of the evening bending brake lines.

Re: Porpotioning Valve

If you can't find the master cylinder fittings in your area, let me know.
