cant get horn to work after installing new steering wheel, please help!!!

I installed an original type reproduction steering wheel today in my 72 c20. I bought all the horn components from lmc as well such as the horn contact kit ect. I put everything together like lmc shows in their catalog and I have no horn now.

I replaced a smaller grant brand steering wheel, and the horn was working great on the grant. I've searched the forums and it seems many are having trouble getting their horns to work on the original type steering wheels. I can't seem to find a clear detailed installation walkthrough.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance!!!

The catalog LMC picture of the horn assembly is shown incorrect.

The plastic 3 holed piece goes in between the bolt heads and the metal dish piece.

Thanks, yeah I figured that part out because I saw others were saying the diagram on lmc was wrong. I think I either have that thin metal disc in backwards or the little pin and spring that goes in to the turn signal canceling cam in wrong. I wish someone could make a photo tutorial of the correct order.

This one might help. It may be a little different but you will get the idea of where parts go. If you have any rust be sure and sand and clean it all down to good metal for a for good contact to ground.

Ok, so Ive tried every combination of ways to put the horn parts together and still no horn. This is very frustrating. I might just go back to an aftermarket steering wheel, it's ridiculous.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Can you hear the relay clicking? If yes check the horn connection and voltage. If not it could be a connection at the relay or the relay itself. Something may have grounded out while you were moving things around.

Re: cant get horn to work after installing new steering wheel, please help!!!

It will work, that is a fickle installation. The trick I used is undo the horn in the front, when tighten down the three screws (1/4 turn at a time in cross sequence), listen for the rely to click. It shouldn't click when tighten the screws down, but if it does, your metal contact plate is off kilter or un-centered and touching ground. The screws should not be tighten down real hard. You have to find the correct spot, then install cap, hook horn back up. Push all four corners of horn button to ensure it makes contact. Hope that helps.
