Re: 1st ride, ls

The former engine , was a mild 383 build...but I got tired of the fuel cost? The old 383, is in my bro's S-10, running 12.7's on the track I am sure that I gave up some power upstairs, but the 5.3 pulls like stink , right off idle....will be fun/spunky street ride with the 6spd box Longhorn

Re: 1st ride, ls

Don't underestimate yourself on the power. I forget your exact setup, but even with a simple tune you should be at the 320-330's, which is what I find MANY older 355-383 level builds considered "good" power.

These engines also FEEL slower, because of the throttle response. They are much smoother, and you never get the "whoooooaaaaaaaa" when the power enrichment-thingy in carbs goes open. If you wanna feel even slower, put big tires on the back (you'll run faster, but feel slower).

Re: 1st ride, ls

A guy told me his truck with a 383 could give me some competition. But so far with all this new found power and torque I feel like I could outrun anything lol. man I just find any excuse to drive my truck now.

Re: 1st ride, ls

She is a rock /stock 5.3 long block (fresh grind + LS-6 springs). I am running carbureted(600 edelbrock, on an rpm intake....figure , that it is what it is (about 300hp)? Hooker streetrod shorties/mandrel bent downs....2 1/2" pipe, all the way out/H pipe/50's flows. The 6 spd Richmond box (3.28 1st gear), is backed with 3.40 gears in the rear. Longhorn

I am a little puter illiterate....but one of my sons, can get what you want to see? The kid , can probably get you an idle clip, on the old truck....it wont be that impressive, the old boich pulls 22 inches of vacumn @ idle(700 rpms)? Longhorn
