Re: T case noise?

My first suggestion is check for something touching the flex-plate,if you haven't already (and even if they say they did). Another thought...re you sure it isn't from farther forward? Maybe it's worth checking the fan vs shroud (?). Just grabbin' at straws. I've seen odd things happen and it usually takes something odd (sometimes easy) to fix it

Re: T case noise?

Yes definitely look at any thing that can flap or vibrate. Noises can really send you on a goose chase.

Story time:
My son and I took our 70 K20 to get radiator flushed right after we got it, couple years ago. When we get to the shop we were talking about a noise we were trying to track down and we were talking transfer/trans possibilities. The shop owner heard and said his brother is trans man and can fix. I said thanks I'll keep him in mind. Came back later to get the truck and he said his brother looked at it an it needed a new trans for sure. I said thanks but we'll think about it.

Figured out the noise the next day. 76 ball on spring antenna was catching wind and causing the antenna the to tip tap and rattle on the cab drip rail. And I did not locate the problem by tracking down the noise. I was just sitting in the passenger seat and noticed it visually and grabbed it with my hand and the noise stopped. It sounded like it was coming from underneath. Took 76 ball off antenna and it fixed the transmission. Go figure!!!!

Re: T case noise?

Unusual noise from transfer case I would drain the oil and check for metal first
Could be deteriating bearing or gear
You can save the oil if no metal present or looks clean

It was just disassembled and reassembled and resealed when i had the tranny rebuilt, they said all the bearings and gears looked fine. The noise was present when i took it there and present when i got it back.

I think its probably the front drive line as i installed a new BDS 4" lift kit that's slightly taller than the old 4" Rancho kit.

But.... work had been hell for a bit and I've been too tired to go work on the truck lately, i'll get to it sometime soon. in the mean time if i need to drive it will be on side roads.

Re: T case noise?

Bump!

Looks like the folders were rearranged a little, I don't want to double post so here's a link to my thread:

If you have any advice i'd appreciate it, like to hear from people with T-case experience. Thanks!
