1970 Lock Pulls - Black or interior color?

I'm talking about the plastic things that screw onto the door lock release on the interior of the door. The thing you push down to lock, pull up to unlock.

All the repops are black, but should I paint them blue to match the interior? I don't know what the originals were. Anyone happen to know that handy tidbit?

Black from GM. I've added these in chrome to my K5 and K20 from GM passenger vehicles.

Re: 1970 Lock Pulls - Black or interior color?

Black=original.

Another item that I haven't seen discussed is that the window crank knobs that I've seen on original trucks were black. The knobs used for the cars of those years were the same design but were silver. Perhaps GMCs used the silver, but I doubt it. Might be an interesting question for you original GMC owners.

No idea, but my guess would be black. My truck didn't have anything so my grand-daughter bought me these.

Is it a big block? Every purple one I've ever seen was a 396 (in Canada, anyway). My theory is that there was a large COPO order that went unsold. I don't mean sexy COPO, I mean a fleet order of "We want 50 purple trucks for our business" and then backed our or went backrupt, etc...

Re: 1970 Lock Pulls - Black or interior color?

My vote would be to match the interior color. Mine are original and green to match the interior. Maybe a gmc thing like painted dash bezel?

Re: 1970 Lock Pulls - Black or interior color?

My 67 when I sold it, had red, but when I bought it back, he'd put black in. (Also changed a few other 67 only things, but that's another story) btw, my truck has the medium red/Orange interior.

I would like to correct this previous statement. Was out working on the truck this afternoon, and my lock pulls where in fact black, and not green. The mind seems to remember things how it wants to, sometimes.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: 1970 Lock Pulls - Black or interior color?

I'd only use chrome if they had integral LED lighting.

So to wrap this thread up, if I've been reading correctly, they were black originally but now you can buy them in colors. So for originality go black, or 'upgrade' to color.

Re: 1970 Lock Pulls - Black or interior color?

That's right. Black lock pulls and window winder knobs in trucks. Cars had color coordinated pulls and black, clear,or even some color coordinated (IIRC).

I didn't realize the window winder knobs were all black . . .

I just looked at all of the pictures I've saved of original interiors and almost ALL had black knobs . . . we learn something new every day, don't we !!!
