What is it with Craigslist people?

So I emailed concerning a 1968 truck (panel actually) and even though it was "posted" just a few days ago the guy emails back and says he sold the thing last year.

If he sold it a year ago why would it have been "posted" just this week?

Is that how CL rolls?

I think craigslist adds only last like 45-60 days

I think in slower areas they may last longer. If the database continues to grow it will trim, if not it just leaves them in (that's what I've noticed since browsing slower Craigslist regions the last few years)

And to the OPs point, it gets me when people say "don't bother asking if it's still available. If the ad is up it is still available." I get that it's an annoying question that should be obvious, but because of people like the panel truck seller it is far from obvious.

Re: What is it with Craigslist people?

the last three cars I called about were sold weeks before I called, another truck that was available and was advertised as running good had both of the starter bolts sheared off in the block when I got there to look at it. I've also been looking for a small work car and I have to laugh at the ones that are advertised as "a/c blows cold, seized up or blown engine"

Re: What is it with Craigslist people?

I heard that older ebay and craigslist adds are being re-listed by scammers.
They will at least receive the 24 hour down payment that's required.
And you're put the money, and the vehicle.

I think craigslist rolls over you adds if you don't delete them, I've had guys call me about a truck I parted out 6 months ago. Dealing with some craigslist people is a pain, no shows is about the worst of it

Re: What is it with Craigslist people?

A lot of people don't have a CL account and just post an ad as a guest. They are the people that don't remove their ad when sold. Never had a listing yet where it said "if the ad is here don't ask if I still have it" and the item wasn't there. Generally if it looks like a good deal, and the ad hasn't been updated in a week then the item sold.

On the other hand my area is pretty busy. I can search "1968" and get 500 hits.

Re: What is it with Craigslist people?

At least your getting responses. I think I inquired on 6-7 trucks before one person ever responded back.
