Firewall markings

My truck has absolutely no markings when I tore it down. Unless it underwent a full repaint including the firewall before, which I do not think it did.

I'd like to add a couple of subtle ones just because everyone expects them to be there.

Is there anything that ALL trucks should have, like a color code? My plant code is Z.

I wouldn't mind a color code and sequence number and leave it at that. If I do that, though, where do they go most commonly, and what sequence number do I use?

From the paint mark threads I've read so far today the CE123456 doesn't seem to match up to the VIN or sequence number, or so it's claimed.

My 70 C-10 has a " 635 " sequence number and a " B " for the Baltimore plant where it was built.

I had 899 on a few places. Twice on firewall, one on inside off fender and one on transmission

Do either of yours happen to match the color code or anything else, or just a random number?

My " 635 " doesn't match the color . . . it was just the number assigned to the " job ".

I don't have the build sheet for mine, but the first picture below shows a " hand-written " 703 in the upper left corner.

The second picture shows what looks like the words " sequence number " on the form, in the upper left corner.

Humorous, but sad, anecdote regarding my firewall markings. I vividly remember wondering why something like that was on my new firewall. So, naturally, I removed those ugly numbers and letters. After all, aren't we all a bit OCD about our vehicles? They'd be there today since my firewall paint still has the original paint. I also remember throwing away a build sheet for one of my vehicles. It could have been this truck.

You can add the sequence number if known, the ce 10734 is a model number in the case of the one posted it is a v8 short fleet, you could do ce 10934 which I think is correct for long fleet v8 truck. You can also include the engine code I.e . Ls9 for 350 and also the trans code if optional trans. If buckets a50 on the core support. It seems different plants marked more than others. Baltimore marked all over them. My 68 had 821 -the sequence number on almost every panel. My 4x4 was marked all over as well. Hope this provides direction.

You all are pretty much right on with your comments thus far.

Any sequence number will do (if you don't know the real one). My truck was number "87", fwiw.

I've marked up a few myself. If anybody tries restoring one of these G vans 50 years from now they are going to be very confused!!

Sadly that top left corner of my build sheet didn't survive. It was stuck in the wet paint of the front of the box, and a miracle that I salvaged any of it.
