1931 Chevy CL Find

Ok, technically, this isn't a heavy hauler. It sure looks like one though. It's only a one ton. This thing is sweet though. I really don't like when the seller calls it a rat rod though. That usually means that it is missing parts I hate when people call trucks rat rods when they are missing the hood or other hard to find body parts. It just seems kind of like cheating to me calling them rat rods. I guess that's the deceiving way to say "incomplete truck". It looks relatively intact. I like the fact that it will run and that it is hand crank. That thing would be awesome restored. Is the grill missing or is it supposed to just be radiator out front?

Gas tank for a seat! I think it is missing the radiator cover. I don't even think they had grills, just metal surrounding the outside of the radiator. It looks like a wider than factory radiator. That's probably why the hood isn't on it.

Looks like the lines on the doors don't match the cab, judging by this picture:

It may not be in this case, but some old trucks actually have cut-down car bodies on them. I saw a truck once that had a 4-Door car body cut down with the rear section welded back on. Once the guy realized it, he brought it back to the guy he bought it from and got his money back.

This would be a good truck for parts though if it is not worth restoring.

Doors don't line up because it most likely needs the wood in the cap re[placed.

Those do not ratrod very well. there are LOTS of little tiny nails that hold the sheet metal to the wood.

My dad restored a 1930 Chevrolet 2 door Coach and it was A LOT of work getting the wood and metal to play nice.

He makes and sells parts for them now since when he bought his car there was no one who made and/or sold parts for them other than Chinese or one off parts.

Oh and trucks were the bastard child for GM, few were sold compared to cars back then, so many had the year before parts on them from cars or trucks.

The grill should have a grill surround around the radiator, usually painted body color, most now are chrome and originals are extremely hard to find.

I love these old old trucks and cars! they are not for the faint at heart though, they need tweaking often.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link to your dad's site. I recently bought a 29' coach in amazing condition. Looks like I may be getting acquainted with him in the near future.

Sorry for the hijack.

No hijacking here. I put these posts up for more of entertainment than anything. If my posts help somebody, they did more than I intended, which is purely to entertain mine and others' interests.
