Question on replacing oil pan on 87 V10

After looking over the 87 V10 I recently picked up, it appears that the oil pan may be leaking. I would like to drop the pan and replace both it and the gasket.

Question is can I drop the pan with the engine in the truck?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks
Scott

yes you can you you will need to remove the long bolts thru the motor mounts and raise up the engine a little bit that helps when dropping the pan.. also when you go back with the new gasket buy the good neoprene gasket by felpro it comes with four plastic studs that you can screw in each corner that holds up the gasket when you put the oilpan back on after you get the pan bolted up with some of the center bolts they will screw rite back out and you can put the four corner 5/16ths bolts back in hope this helps

Re: Question on replacing oil pan on 87 V10

Finally ready to do this job. Can anyone tell me for sure if the engine has to be lifted or if the pan will squeeze out without going through lifting the engine for clearance?

Thanks
Scott

I was able to do mine without lifting the engine.... Did have to remove the dust shield on the trans torque converter but that's it...

In my 74 all I had to do was drop the dust shield and it comes in and out easily.

If you have an automatic transmission you may have to move the lines a little bit.
