1976 C20 Crew "Tank"

Hey guys!
I purchased my 76 3/4 ton crew cab last sunday up in fayetville TN through craigslist. After church dad and I drover up their to look it over and see if we could haggle a little with the lady selling it. Her husband and 14 year old had bought it intending to fix it up, but her husband has a brain disease and her son had changed his mind. I haven't nailed down the specifics yet, but she told me that it had a 305 put in it by fayetville city (previous owners as best I can tell) But I personally think it may be a 350, like I said just haven't gone and hunted for the engine number.

Dad and I took our trailer up there and it turned out that we had been friends with the owners sister for many years which helped build trust between us, as she had heard our name before.

I looked the truck over while I was there and was able to start it and it surprised me how well it started and ran. At the time the only real issue I knew of was that the brakes were very very bad.

She surprised me by accepting my first offer which was $400 below what the craigslist add. So dad and I drove it up onto the trailer (Which was just barely large enough) with $900 in it including fuel for the trip.

Here he is, I named him Tank the day after I bought him (everything I care about has a name. Cheesy as it is )

After I got him home and washed off all the dust and dirt and everything else that I could.



Then today after taking off the atrocious homemade fender flares


I'm going about this build with the mindset of building a nice looking daily driver that is comfortable to drive. Nothing to extreme, but I'm excited to see how it will come out.

Hopefully going to replace the pads and shoes tomorrow and bleed the brakes, and hope that does the trick.

This thread will be filled with questions with intermittent build progression
My first being what size is the Allen key needed to remove the caliper bolts to replace the brakes? My book doesn't say that I can find. And google isn't helping that much either.

Found a donor vehicle on craigslist. Running 79 bonanza. Unfortunately the engine is the same as mine, so I'll probably end up selling that off. But most of the other pieces I can use. I need to replace both front fenders the bed and the rear bumper/tailgate. Anything else will just be pick and choose, and then I'll sell of the rest.
