Two tone Cheyenne super

Did any Cheyenne or Cheyenne supers come with just the white in the middle and not on the roof?

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

I do not think that paint scheme was offered as a factory option. Unless it was special ordered as a fleet truck or something, then I guess almost anything was possible.
According to the below thread any two tone always included the roof for the secondary color.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

I am a little surpriced nobody else chimed in here. I just saw the below old thread whith a GMC Sierra Grande which I believe is the GMC counterpart for Cheyenne Super painted with white in the middle only, not saying that one is factory correct though.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

The factory paint choices in 72 on a pickup were limited.

Solid, single color.

Conventional Two-Tone, White roof in the industry classic two-tone scheme. The upper cab in 521 White.

Custom Two-Tone, Select contrasting color other than white on the roof only. Think DARK BLUE/MED BLUE or BLACK/HUGGER ORANGE. Looks just like the basic Conventional Two-Tone but without White.

Deluxe Two-Tone, (400 series, 4XX paint code) White roof and between the body side moldings. Think WHITE/BLUE/WHITE/BLUE.

For a truck to have a white panel between the moldings but not the roof it would be a "Special Paint" truck. But many were painted at the dealer level or post delivery with white or another contrasting color between the two bodyside moldings.

Two-Tones are not model restricted and any Cheyenne or Super would have been solid color unless a Two-Tone option was selected.

Interesting that the orange truck on eBay doesn't show the engine type on the SPID either.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

Yeah, no engine listed is weird. I could see it if it had the very base engine, but that'd no doubt be a six.

Could one of the other options include the small block? Like the "Cust Comf & Conv Equip" ?

You could get AC on a six, so that doesn't help. Having an auto trans didn't require a V8, I don't imagine.

Anyone have a good guess?

The second digit ( e ) in the serial number denotes it came from the factory with the base 307 V8 engine. 350 or 402 engines are on the spids because they were an option.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

Correct, base engine trucks will not list the engine on the SPID other than as part of the VIN and model numbers like CS CE or CM. Also on 69-72s, base engines will not have a fender callout for the engine either.
Remember for the most part the SPID lists basic info and options added to a base model truck as identified by the VIN and model numbers.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

That truck is a time capsule. So original, it still sports the factory stove pipe from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner! The only thing I see that may have been done by a previous owner is the white paint on the roof and the sides look to be painted on a completely orange truck. If the white was original, the chrome trim should be installed over the center of the two paint colors. This truck has the white paint ending at the bottom of the narrow body side chrome pieces and the top of the wide chrome. Also, you can see the white paint is peeling and the orange is showing beneath it. This is the reason why I don't think the truck was an original two tone. Plus, I'd think the SPID would have stated if it was a factory two tone.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

for a second there, I thought we had our FIRST example of a non-Janesville truck with centered "Deluxe" emblem. Then I realized it's not actually a Custom Deluxe - appears a PO decided to add the upgraded trim identification without doing his homework on emblem placement... ORrrrr - is this an early 71 Custom Deluxe where they still called it "Custom Comfort and Convenience"? (same RPO). If it IS an original Custom D, then it is the first non-Janesville truck I've ever seen with a centered Deluxe emblem.

Check between the front of the bed and the cab to see if there is a lot of over-spray or if there is what appears to be a distinct paint line. Also, check the door jambs on the rear side of the cab to see if the white paint goes all the way over to the door seal.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

I'm thinking that it did, and my only clue or guess is that it doesn't have the small piece of trim that goes underneath the back window where it separates the paint scheme. I have one other cab, a factory two-tone Cheyenne with ochre and the mustard color and that has the trim separating the two colors. Hope this helps any?

It would be very interesting to see the SPID from your truck.

Re: Two tone Cheyenne super

The ebay orange C10 is a Z62 Custom Deluxe and coded 516, so solid orange. The white paint additon is clearly apparent as is the added woodgrain tailgate band between the existing tailgate moldings.
As Jocko pointed out it has center justified Deluxe emblems previously only seen on Janesville trucks. As late as it is, 2/71 I'm suprised to see them and not more to date for Atlanta "A".

Remember the paint code will describe the colors and locations (if two-tone) on a Chevy SPID for non-special paint trucks.

If someone has a white only band with a body color roof I'd like to see the paint code. Every case I have seen so far has been an addition like I stated in post 5.
