Tunes for an LS

So I see lots of chatter about tuning these engines in swaps. But what about ones in their factory state?

My wife drives a 2003 yukon. Only 83k miles. But it just feels a little sluggish and gets not very good mileage

Yes unknown typical tune up is probably due but what about a "tune"?

Re: Tunes for an LS

There's plenty of untapped power in these from stock form. Mine is a 100k mile+ bone stock engine save for DT headers. Got it tuned on a dyno by a local shop (that I'm not too fond of anymore) and it is making around 300whp/320ft-lbs. Stock is supposed to be 300-325hp and 360-370 ft-lbs at the crank. Considering this is going through a 2 piece drive shaft and very heavy 4l80 I'd say either those headers are miracle workers or the stock tune is just a little on the safe side!

I would get it done at a local tuner in person, not an online tune. Regardless of power, changing the shift points can make a big difference. Can't say you're going to pick up any mpg's though...

Re: Tunes for an LS

You can get more aggressive with the timing, and DFCO to increase the fuel economy a bit. More power can also be had from timing and some power enrichment tweaks.

It will "feel" more fun to drive with some changes to the throttle body vs pedal position table, shift time and pressure, torque management, abuse management. GM leaves plenty on the table with a stock tune.

You might try this guy-

www.nelsonperformance.com/

or

www.wait4meperformance.com

Both have mail order tuning services. I've used both with good results

Put it on rollers and have a live tune.

Re: Tunes for an LS

Always go with a local shop if you can, they can dial it in better than an online tune.
